September 13, 201511 yr With 2 homers against the Rays last night Big Papi became the 27th member of baseball's 500 homer club. He's had another good year and a great career for the Red Sox. His signing, perhaps more than any other move made during that time, helped propel Boston to 3 World Series titles. David Ortiz of Boston Red Sox hits 500th career home run
September 14, 201511 yr Yep. He was among those that tested positive in the original screening by MLB. It was supposedly anonymous (lol) but the names were leaked. When the MLB testing ramped up a few years ago Ortiz had a really awful stretch and analysts were describing how he'd lost bat speed and maybe was really older than his advertised age. Then suddenly it turned around and he started cranking homers in Bonds type sprees. He obviously found something else to use that MLB doesn't test for.

He was coming off of an injury plagued season in 2008 and his wrist wasn't healed yet. He still finished wit 28 homers and 99 RBIs. He's never failed an official drug test and he's never had the huge spike in numbers that is normally associated with PED users. His name was supposedly in the last that was leaked in the 2003 pilot test program. It did not list, however, what he tested positive for. There were numerous over the counter supplements that players were taking then that could produce a positive test. If he were continually using is have to think they'd have caught him in the 12 years since that test.
September 14, 201511 yr Author Users are always ahead of the testers. Tell that to A-rod, Braun, Melky, etc.
September 14, 201511 yr You're making my case for me. How were those players identified as PED users? I'll give you a hint: it wasn't through the MLB drug testing program. A former Biogenesis employee tipped off the Feds that Anthony Bosch was providing steriods to pro athletes. Maybe the numbers tell a story and maybe they don't. Just out of curiosity I grabbed his HR totals by season: 2000 10 2001 18 2002 20 2003 31 (TESTED POSITIVE FOR PED USE) 2004 41 2005 47 2006 54 2007 35 2008 23 2009 28 (named as one of 104 players who tested positive for PEDs in 2003) 2010 32 2011 29 2012 23 (90 gms - on pace for 35-40) 2013 30 age 37 2014 35 age 38 2015 34 age 39
September 14, 201511 yr So he tested positive for PED use in 2003 but that was not revealed at the time. He was not even notified he tested positive. His home run production jumps 50% from 2002 to 2003. He then goes on a huge HR tear 2004-2006. Around age 32 starts declining a bit in HR production. Now in last 4 seasons (late 30s) he's ramped up HR numbers again. Following the Bonds trend pretty accurately. Believe or don't believe?

Except for an injury plagued season in 2012 he's been around 30-35 homers every season since 2009. He had 3 years of 40+ homers right when he was in his hitting prime. If he is juicing he must be the smartest guy alive given that he is under extra scrutiny since those 2003 names were leaked. Yet he's not failed a single test. He sure doesn't look the part either.
September 15, 201511 yr Author Take a look at the guy, he has PEDs written all over him. I guess it is that chiseled physique, huh?
September 15, 201511 yr I remember watching him early on as a Twin . I thought he'd have a nice career but nothing like this. His numbers between the ages 28 and 30 are absurd.
September 15, 201511 yr You can keep saying that since 2003 he hasn't failed a drug test. Neither did Melky. Neither did Johnny Peralta. That statement carries exactly zero weight. Those guys were taking roids and didn't test positive. Ortiz and other users are way, way ahead of the testers. They're probably on the 5th generation of whatever product they're using and the testers don't even know that the 1st generation of it even exists. If that's all you got, I rest my case. The numbers I posted above speak for themselves.
September 15, 201511 yr People are only going to call out PED users in baseball when they don't play for their team or they don't like the guy. All of MLB is juiced, and I for one don't care.
