September 5, 201511 yr To borrow from my old friend, Warren Zevon: "The phone don't ring And the sun refused to shine Never thought I'd have to pay so dearly For what was already mine For such a long, long time." Kim Davis has , for a long, long time, seen her pitiful self living her pitiful thrice -divorced life, as a champion for the cause- a leader of God's army of soldiers fighting against the national wave of support for same-sex marriage. Ms Davis , in her fragile mind, was always the martyr. She just lacked the recognition as such. Now that the grand stage presented itself to her and her fifteen minutes of fame was there for the taking, Ms Davis and her Liberty Counsel cohorts seized the moment. Now with anti-gay/ pro- Jesus signs populating the streets of Grayson, KY and with poor Ms Davis imprisoned, not against her will, but of her own accord and in her very own lion's den, she has , in the eyes of many, achieved the martyrdom that she has long felt she has deserved. Folks, Grayson is now a circus... a sideshow. Eastern KY is center-stage for the eyes of the world. Yes, bagpipes were sounding early this morning in the streets of Grayson. The Master of ceremonies, the circus barker himself, Mr Huckabee, will arrive to a grand reception on Tuesday, no doubt to anoint the dear lady with blessed oil as well as official title of Martyr for the Purity of Marriage. Unlike in Mr Zevon's complicated love song, this is no accidental martyrdom. This is every bit intentional. This martyrdom is one in which Ms Davis hopes to benefit from both in national notoriety and in financial terms. And she likely will. Are negotiations for the book deal and plans for the talk show circuit already underway? "The days slide by Should have done, should have done, we all sigh Never thought I'd ever be so lonely After such a long, long time Time out of mind."
September 5, 201511 yr I said the same thing to my wife. She's in jail and will emerge a hero to a cause. She'll never have to worry about money again and her name is one that will be mentioned for years to come. It's a shame but this is America.

And lest some think otherwise, Ms Davis is quite aware of her future possibilities. Would a moderator mind switching the "y" and "r" in "Martyr" in the title of this thread? Thank you.
September 5, 201511 yr I'm not sure she is that smart to think that far ahead. I think the more likely scenario is that she made her original statements and it hit the news. Then when she was challenged the outside groups that are supporting her and pushing her forward. IMO they are using her to push their agenda, they are in her ear telling her not to back down.
September 5, 201511 yr I hope she won't emerge as a hero for us anti-gay marriage folks. I would call her "courageous" or "brave" if she took a stand and quit her job. One who fails to follow directions of their boss is not a hero in my eyes.

If she had resigned, saying her beliefs would not allow her to carry out her duties, I think she would have garnered a lot more genuine respect from many sectors of the population, including me.

Mr Briar Jumper, you may be right in that she is not capable of being as forward-thinking as I implied she might. However, once the ball started rolling and the story gained momentum and national prominence, then I think she probably started to grasp the big picture.

But I still think that there are some pushing her to hold fast to further their own agendas.

And to your mantra(which is a good one and very true): "To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible." She should have just let her faith be her explanation and resigned without spectacle. Any explanation is not going to appeal to the other side and only dilutes her own cause, in my opinion. A person of true faith, I feel, doesn't need this public circus to serve as their testimony. Just a quiet resignation would have had far greater appeal and served as a much better testament to her faith.
September 6, 201511 yr Maybe this will turn into something like the scopes monkey trial. That'd be neat.
September 7, 201511 yr I think in two weeks she will be forgotten and her butt will still be in jail. Then what will she do with her moral righteousness?

All the gay couples coming from other states to get on television and make a circus as you say are what caused this to be a circus to start with. Christians have been silent for decades and all it has resulted in is less and less of a moral and law abiding country. Not saying she is handling this in the right way but what is done is done and I'm sure the left is not happy with all the publicity. Christians should keep quiet and get out of the way.
