Something huge coming to eastern Kentucky?

I've been reading and hearing rumors that there is going to be a big announcement in about a week, about a huge new development coming to eastern Kentucky, specially Lawrence County and the Fallsburg area. It's supposedly something that will be a big tourist attraction, and bring lots of jobs to the area. It's said that phase one of the development will begin in less than a year, and have as much as 5 phases as part of the development depending on the demand and response by the public. Anybody else heard anything about this new development?

Same thing was rumored to happen in Mason County a few years back. Some folks like me were skeptical that half a billion dollars would be spent here on such an endeavor, and apparently we were correct.

Any idea on what it was supposed to be?

The 2,500-acre Wyldwood Resort and Airpark mixed-use property is located on the southern bank of the Ohio River along the east side of Maysville. It will have a deepwater port and marina with 95 wet slips and deepwater port on the Ohio River, on the east side of Maysville Kentucky, with a 2,000 acre Hill Top community east of State Highway 11, north of AA Highway and west of Orangeburg Road. This particular Wyldwood Development will have a 2,400-acre hunting preserve 15 miles south and west of the Hilltop community at Brandywine Road and Clarks Run Road. This will be the first hunting preserve in a Wyldwood Development anywhere in the world. The Wyldwood Development Group has retained Virginia Tech graduate, Duane Truslow, as the Hunting Preserve Specialist to design and ultimately maintain the preserve to maximize the hunting experience for its guests, while insuring state of the art wildlife resources are employed.

Wyldwood Place will enjoy a virtual arcade, four cinema screens, bowling lanes, nightclub and arcade at the Wyldwood Entertainment Complex. A yet-to-be-named hotel will have 244 rooms, with conference and banquet hall, and Three Lagoon Pool and gardens. The Wyldwood Place Grand Theatre shall have a performance stage with seating for 1,800 guests, 60,000 square foot floor area and 40-50 foot high ceiling, and post-editing facility to produce CDs and DVDs of live performances. The tennis center will include a stadium-style center court with six practice courts (grass, clay and paved surfaces), clubhouse and juice bar. There will be a 5002-foot private airstrip, 18-hole signature golf course, a major equestrian park and riding facility, and winery among the many amenities.

The project will have a village center featuring a host of retail and specialty shops, cafés and restaurants along the quaint streets and creekside. Above the shops will be a series of loft homes and additional retail space. Most of the parking will be integrated below the buildings to ensure a beautiful village-like appearance.

Throughout the site will be estate homes, standard homes, courtyard residence, and loft homes. Trees, creeks, water fountains, park benches, parks, and walking trails, gently winding walkways and bike trails all nestled comfortably with nature in an abundance of trees and garden areas adding to the ambiance of gracious country living.

Self contained nirvana....other than the hunting, nothing there for me, but by the description it was going to squeeze some old money to buy into a place like that.

You sure this wasn't going to be named Whitewater ?

I'm all for adding tourist items that attract jobs and income for my EKY brothers/sisters. I remember years ago a professor expounding upon the recreational/tourist opportunities of creating a large lake in EKY. Great idea until you try to decide which county(ies) you want to submerge.

Interesting. I've heard nothing about this. It would be great if it happens, but I'm skeptical.

It appears that if this is the same thing that was planned for Mason County, someone is serious about doing it, it appears that they may be having a hard time finding the right location. Anyone know why the project in Mason County fell apart?
