Ensworth just beat the crap out of Maryville in a scrimmage.. Each team had the ball for 6 series, where Ensworth scored 3 times and Maryville only picked up 1 1st down. From listening to the Maryville coach, Ensworth is clearly the best team in Tn and he said it's really not that close. He made reference to them strickly lining up and running it up the middle and that Maryville's D couldn't stop it. Praised their RBs and OL and said they're good enough to beat any team in the state by just running the ball, but, once they get into a real game and open up the playbook, they're going to be scary. Also praised how good the Tiger D was from the OL to LBs to secondary.

 

This will be a tough game for Trinity. I'd say a defensive struggle, most likely. If I were T, I'd load the box and make them throw it to beat you.

Haven't found a final score posted by anyone yet but clearly shows Ensworth doesn't have near the studs they have had in the past. I believe this will be the year for Trinity to notch a win against Ensworth.

I was happy to see the Rocks take it pretty easy on each other Friday night in the Green-white game. Man, we've seen some battles over the years and we usually have a number of guys banged up going into week #1 . It sounds like our guys are pretty healthy right now and knock on wood...we keep it that way in practice this week.

 

Unfortunate situation with our 3rd/4th string QB...I think it was Nick Bohn. Don't know all of the details about the knee injury but hope for a speedy recovery. Rock Nation thinking about the young man. Think he was set to get significant reps on JV level.

 

Hurry up and get Enzo back at WR...add even more depth to an already deep and dangerous WR group.

 

Looking forward to watching that OLine Friday night. I want to believe this group of seniors on the OLine will regularly win us a bunch of games in the trenches. So far...I've been overly impressed.

 

Guys need to play Trinity defense!! No home run balls in the air and continue to gang tackle...punishing guys if Ensworth is planning to grind it out with the running game.

Thanks.. I saw it on CoachT web site and it was on the 1st page in the forums, so, you'd figure it was this years scrimmage. Wonder why a 2013 scrimmage game would be on the 1st page. Weird.

I really hope they just line up and run it right at us!!! Would love that!! I know we have the horses to match up this year, Can't wait!!

• Head Coach: Ricky Bowers (12th Season)

 

Coach Ricky Bowers and the Ensworth Tigers won 4 state titles in a row from 2010 to 2013. Since 2008, Ensworth has a combined record of 76 wins and only 8 losses, establishing themselves as a national power and the team to beat in Tennessee Division IIAA. The Tigers had another solid year in 2014 producing big wins over Trinity High School from Louisville, KY and Brainerd High School out of Chattanooga, and a solid 5-1 district record with a lone loss to McCallie before tearing into the playoff finals and falling to Nashville rival, MBA in a close 10-7 turnover and penalty-ridden game. For a team loaded with seniors and 10 eventual college signees, the Tigers faced an uncharacteristic regular season loss, but rebounded and showed well through adversity. As a program that has winning as a standard, the loss in the state championship game fueled a fire and quelled any complacency within the Ensworth program. This year’s Tigers are young with only 9 seniors on the squad. The coaching staff is looking for early leadership as they reload with talented youth and vie for another title run in 2015 and set the foundation for the future of Ensworth Football.

 

Ensworth likes to play a methodical brand of ball control football on offense. The Tigers will look to run first and throw out of play action opportunities. A team that usually sets in a pro-I will adjust to several 1-back sets as they adjust to new skill players and find a true fullback in 2015. Coach Bowers’ teams will play hard and smart and try to avoid mistakes and penalties. The Tigers youth (4 sophomores, 1 freshman) doesn’t equate to inexperience. There are 4 returners on the offense, however several key role players from past seasons will be stepping into more permanent roles this fall. Quarterback Coleman Goodwin (6’3”, 210, Sr) led the team to the state championship as a backup in 2013 and will be taking the helm again. The Tigers run game will be built around speedy tailback Darius Morehead (5’8”, 170, Sr) and the big bodies and quick feet of center Blake Mitchell (6’2”, 275, Sr) and tackle Peyton Terry will lead the blocking on the line. The passing game will target the hands and speed of receivers Rodney Owens (6’0”, 180, Jr) and Brett Barnett (6’1”, 180, Sr).

 

Defensively, the Tigers will primarily line up in a strike and read 3-4 set, occasionally adjusting to multiple other fronts to attack situational advantages. Inexperienced on defense, the season will start with simple, basic concepts and develop into more complex schemes as the season progresses. The Tigers have 3 key returners to the defense with several players moving to new positions or from former offensive roles. Expect 7 or 8 players to see significant playing time on both sides of the ball. The Ensworth staff feels that this approach will give them the best 11 players to generate high quality football, but it will also create multiple opportunities for younger backups to see quality minutes to develop and create rest for the 2-way starters. Mitchell and Terry will be joined by Owen Edwards (Sr) on the defensive front. Defensive back Jarquis Hendricks (5’11”, 185, Jr) and Moorehead will shore up the secondary with safeties Owens and Barnett. Setting the tempo and guiding the defense will be standout linebackers Patrick Rowan (5’10”, 180, Sr) and Jaylan Theus (5’8”, 195, Fr). Jaylon King (6’0”, 170, So) will see plenty of field time in a defensive back role as well.

 

On special teams, Ensworth returns K/P specialist Colby Green (Sr) from 2014.

 

The Tiger coaching staff has tough tests for its’ young team with early season road trips to Louisville, KY for another matchup against Trinity and Huntsville, AL to face 2014 Alabama state champion, Madison Academy that will set the tone and establish their meddle before the Division IIAA season begins. Winning is the expectation at Ensworth, and while young, these Tigers are not inexperienced. It will take a few weeks and some hard games against tough opponents for this team to settle in to their new roles and open up the playbook, but the leadership is there and, the Tigers expect to return to Cookeville to bring the title back to Ensworth.

Expect 7 or 8 players to see significant playing time on both sides of the ball.

I'm a Trinity guy so it pains me to say that there can't be to much made of this. Ensworth is 2-0 against Trinity and have beaten them both times playing a significant number of players both ways. In fact I would venture to say that they have fared better against the hot weather conditions both years then Trinity has.

 

There could be other factors playing into giving Trinity the nod in this one but this isn't one of them.

I feel this was the case in '13 but it wasn't last year, Trinity shot themselves in the foot last year and still had the ball with a chance tie or win the game with about 1:20 to go on the Ensworth 20 something yardline before they were stopped on downs. Also, this is a very young Ensworth team coming in so I definitely feel like Trinity has the edge as far as experience and senior leadership, whether that translates into a win for Trinity who knows but I think it will.

Maryville is the #1 overall team in the Tennessee power rankings.

Trinity scores early and takes a 14 -0 half time lead. Holds on for a hard earned big W over Ensworth 28 - 13. In so it begins !!!!

Ensworth played Hillsboro to 21-21 tie last week.. Hillsboro is a pretty tuff team..
