My dark-horse pick is Knox Central. They'll be top 5 in 4A by season's end.

 

Don't see it happening. They will start the season at 1-4. There brutal schedule will do them in. I look for Wayne County to win that district.

Great Read. Ashland will have more then likely 2 shots at JC. They have the kids to make a DEEP run. Hopefully the coaches have a good game plan in place. Love is a very good Defensive coach and he needs to put his kids in the right spots to make plays and tighten up the D. Offensively they need to simplify the playbook, settle on 1 offensive coordinator and block for Baker and company. Those things happen, I like our chances.

Bourbon County is intriguing.

 

The 2014 Bourbon team was considerably down compared to the 2012 and 2013 teams. They lacked players who could catch passes and their defense was very young.

 

The 2012 or 2013 Colonels would definitely be a Top 5 team in 4A this upcoming year. I don't know enough about the 2015 Colonels to say whether they will more closely resemble those strong teams, or if it will be closer to the 2014 team. I could see Bourbon competing for top honors in that Region...I could also see them being overmatched in Round 2.

 

Keep an eye on them though...

Not true for Johnson Central, Russell, Raceland, Lewis County, West Carter, Rowan County, Ashland, Boyd County, East Carter, or Covington Catholic

 

In fact the only team it looks like had their lowest point total of the year was Fleming County.

 

I will say Greenup is a lot better than people give credit for and have vastly improved though.

My bad. Should have said held them well below those teams average.

I think the team that will fly under the radar this season will be madisonville - north hopkins..their new coach Jay Burgett was a stand-up at mayfield hs and at murray state university..this team will be young, losing 18 to graduation, but should coach find the right people for the right positions, then I think with his toughest and defensive knowledge, that this team can beat a few unsuspecting teams and have a decent season.

I really hate to hear that about the John Hardin Weatherspoon kid. I am really looking forward to the JH vs. South Warren game in a couple weeks.

Kids to stupid things sometimes, he has been suspended for the year from John Hardin High shcool and the football program. He was a great talent, but also a big distraction in the locker room and on the field. After seeing John in the 7on7 tourny at Central two weeks ago, I am left with the impression that they will struggle early but continue to improve as the season goes on. John makes too many mental errors, QB is prone to throwing picks. John has a lot of raw talent, is undersized on both sides of the ball along the front but has lots of speed at skill positions. The team out of that 10 team 7on7 tournament that impressed was Central Hardin, beating North Hardin for the championship. They are big, fast and deep at most positions. They also won the 7on7 tourney at Campbellsville early in July, beating Boyle County in the championship. This migh be the best team Central Hardin has put on the field, period, definatelty the best coaching staff they have ever assembled. Tim Mattingly, a former Meade County defensive coordinator, in year 2 at Central Hardin, brings discipline, an edge, and the wing T offense to this program that has a big offensive line and FB Xavier Arnette 6'1" 210, senior, that is a load to bring down.

So if they win their region with a 9-4 record and lose to Johnson Central in the state semi-finals as one of the final 4 teams left, they will not be in the top 5 at season's end?

Probably not... just because you win a weak Region doesn't mean you leapfrog better teams with more difficult playoff paths.

I get what you're saying, but you have to realize that Johnson Central beat Ashland by 35 points last year. Will they make up that difference? I personally don't believe they will. Some of you folks put way too much stock in Baker at Ashland. Bourbon will pose no threat to JC coming from 3A. We will have to agree to disagree.

My gut feeling is going with Johnson Central, but they have disappointed by early exit from the playoffs in recent years. My constructive comment goes like this. JC is an awesome ground and pound offense and will give a team with a mediocre defense a hard time, but in return and from what I have seen, JC cannot stop teams that have athletes. Seems to have problems covering quick, fast receivers.... With that said, I still pick JC and South Warren.
