We played nerf football in the street and there were many times we were tackled by some parked cars. I can't imagine watching kids pounding nerf balls and pushing each other into my car nowadays.

Had two trees in a common area in our neighborhood we used as bases. You'd run back and forth between the two while someone standing in the middle with something like a nerf ball tried to pelt you. If you got hit, you became the man with the ball. We would keep a record of who could go back and forth the most times without getting hit. We played this one CONSTANTLY.

 

King of the Mountain[/U]

Another friend had a mysterious hill in his backyard. Looking back now it was probably just leftover dirt from a construction project in the neighborhood that was just left there and grass grew over it. It had fairly steep sides and went up about five feet or more. The rest of the game is just like you'd expect: one dude stands on top and everyone else tries to knock him down.

 

Woodpile Soccer

Stand in front of pile of firewood and try to guard it from being hit while the other two or three guys kick soccer balls at it. Bonus points for shooters if you could get one past the keeper high up and actually knock down pieces of wood from the pile.

 

Forgot that one...I loved this game. The only problem I was about 4 or 5 years younger than everyone else on my street and would get the crap beat out of me.

 

I can remember playing a game of wiffle ball and I said something to the second baseman. He yelled why don't you come out here and say it to my face. I knew he would be the tar out of me and I walked very slowly out there, said it again, and took a bloody nose. Amazingly, no one cared and no parents were calling other parents.

Reminded me of Marco Polo in the pool.

You guys are really taking me back. Not really a game but we had a lot of sword fights with the metal trash can lids as shields. Also were helpful during bb gun wars but they made a racket!

Do kids play any of these any more? Or did most of these games die with the technology age?

Other than boy scout campout games and playing on the trampoline my 19 year old never played outside in the past 10 years. He and his buddies have all night video game marathons for fun.

The games we played when I was a kid were wiffle ball, but we usually jammed rocks in the ball and taped up the holes, or we played tennisball with an aluminum bat and rubber ball. whoever wasnt playing in the softball game that was going on would all play in the grass next to the softball field so when ur game was getting ready to start you wouldnt be late. If we were not playing that it was touch or sometimes tackle football. there was a group of about 10-15 of us that hung out all summer in Germantown at the park.

1 on 1 wiffle ball - pitchers mound out

Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby - each player had a MLB team and you had to bat the way the player did.

I'm sure this game had a name but I forget what we called it. One person would throw a rubber ball against the wall. Ball then had to bounce and if it got past the opponent who was stationed behind you it was a run.

Used to play hide n seek at the old Rinks store in Bellevue.....long time ago.

Me and my brother would play "strikeout" down at Bellevue Stadium. We would split in half so many rubber balls that we started to playing with hard balls & batting cage balls.......folks on the tennis courts hated us. :lol2:

We used to play hide and seek at the Alexandria Fairgrounds in the horse stables.

We had a fair amount of bike competitions. Sprint races, marathons, relays and someone was always putting together a ramp to jump things. Always funny when 10-speed guy would try the ramp . . . fail!
