August 6, 201511 yr On this day: 1982 - Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' opened in movie theatres in New York. 2004 - "The King of Punk-Funk" Rick James was found dead at his home. I was so much into The Wall during high school that I rushed to the theater to see the movie when it first came out, and walked away scratching my head wondering what the hell it was that I saw. I felt defeated because how could I be so into something that I didn't even understand? It took me years, a better understanding of Roger Water's back story, and multiple views to finally figure it out. Although artistically unique and brilliant, just not a very uplifting movie. After a thousand listens I can barely stomach The Wall anymore, and will likely never see the movie again as it, and the album both depress the hell out of me. When younger and thinking that I was immortal, I had the time for it, but now my hours feel way too precious to be taken so far down with all of that. With that said, and although on a similar level of depressing, I can still manage listening to "Animals", as its brilliance still seems to transform and fascinate me. Perhaps it's because it's just half as long, and the radio didn't play it to death.
