Did You Know??????? Music Edition

Definitely not 86; never heard of him.

Chris was a guitar jam buddy of a childhood friend of mine who graduated from CovCath in '86, so I'll have to research some more where Chris went to school and when he graduated.

Through his Linkedin page I discovered that he attended Millikin University in Decatur, Ill from 1988-1992 and graduated with a Bachelor's in Music & Production, and is presently Green Day's guitar tech.

He might've then graduated from high school in '88 and not '86 like I had first thought.

On this Day:

1979 – The World Series of Rock is held at Cleveland Stadium, featuring AC/DC, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Journey, Thin Lizzy, and Scorpions. (And ole CWF was there)

1973 – Grand Funk Railroad released “We’re An American Band”.

Mrs. Lawnboy is a Class of '88 "Cake-Eater", I'll ask her and checkout her yearbooks. :thumb:

That's a STRONG line-up, lucky you.

...also on this day in......

1969, Police in Moscow reported that thousands of public phone booths had been vandalised after thieves were stealing parts of the phones to convert their acoustic guitars to electric. A feature in a Russian youth magazine had shown details on how to do this.

1992, Rapper Ice T announced that Warner Brothers Records would pull the controversial song 'Cop Killer' from all future copies of his "Body Count" album. The song had been the target of protests by law enforcement groups who said it encouraged the killing of police. Ice T said he would give away recordings of 'Cop Killer' at his concerts. In an ironic twist, he would later join the cast of the NBC police drama, Law and Order.

2000, A U.S. federal appeals court granted a last minute stay of an injunction that ordered Napster, Inc., to shut down. The order to stop operations came on July 26, 2000.

Birthdays :

1949 Simon Kirke, Free/Bad Company

1949 Steve Took, T Rex

That's some funny stuff right there

With the topic of Genesis introduced, I would like you to all marvel at the 1983 video for "Illegal Alien."

Not exactly politically correct.

Great song from one of my favorite albums.

From 1955-1990 the only recording artists with 18 or more consecutive Top 20 hits were Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Madonna, and Three Dog Night...

Highlands Class of '88.........his senior picture is pure 80's hair band material.

He played in a band in HS called Turkey Lips with David Storm, Glenn Kukla, Jeff Hager. Mrs. Lawnboy's Senior yearbook came in handy.

Not exactly politically correct.

I always liked that song and that album — didn't much care for Genesis as a full-on prog-rock band because, well, prog-rock stinks. But I watched that video a couple years ago for the first time in decades, and the only thing that came to my mind was, "Wow, that's racist." I wonder if Phil Collins ever gets asked about it these days?

Here's a DYK? for you:

Kris Kristofferson, of all people, played football, rugby and ran track at USC before heading off to Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship. After that, he joined the US Army, went through Ranger school and eventually rose to the rank of Captain, and he was also a helo pilot in the Army.

He had an opportunity to teach English Lit at West Point, but passed it up to pursue songwriting. His parents disowned him over this, and they never reconciled.

I definitely did not know that.

Any time I hear that song I picture Fox News showing Mexicans running across the border with the song playing in the background.

Vamanos!

Don Henley and Glenn Frey both played in Linda Ronstadts band where they, with the support of Linda, went and formed The Eagles. A lot of people knew that, however when the Eagles originally released the song Desperado, the arranent was different and didn't go over very well and was pretty much ignored until Linda Rondatadt re-released it with a different arrangement. It is the arrangment that the Eagles used when they re-recorded it and is the version that we all know today as a big Eagles hit.

Did you know that four-time Academy Award nominated composer Danny Elfman's first appearance in film or television came in a 1976 episode of The Gong Show?

Did you know the Host of The Gong Show, Chuck Barris was the writer of the song "Palisades Park" which was a hit for Freddy Cannon.

One more example of Don Henley's idiocy. :D
