The problem is, "Thunderstruck" has always been one of the most horrible songs ever, even when it was brand-new. The slew of cats that were yowling just outside my door last night sound better than Brian Johnson on his best day.

 

Ugh. HS football season is right around the corner. I'll be hearing that abortion of a song repeatedly for months on PA systems everywhere.

Actually "Fly on The Wall" was so awful and that's where the decline really began for me.

 

From about the age of 15-20 both Bon & Brian's AC/DC... I couldn't get enough and once was probably their biggest fan. The riff to Highway to Hell changed my life. I ran home everyday from school Sophomore year to jam out that album.

AC/DC is the finest example — along with Van Halen — about how a great thing can go horribly wrong by picking the wrong lead singer.

 

I have a confession to make.

 

When I was a teen, for fear of being banished I pretended to like Van Halen when I really didn't. Sure I admired EVH's guitar prowess, but aside from that I felt so pretentious acting like I thought that David Lee Roth was cool. I really couldn't stand him or ever thought that he could sing. Then with Sammy it just went from bad to worse.

 

Also, for a time I ran around with a ton of Southern Rock freaks who thought that Lynyrd Skynyrd was God. Found myself faking a lot of that too. I dug them a little and even liked Freebird the first 500 times that I heard it. After that, when the hoots and hollers and fists still went up whenever it came on the radio, I couldn't help but to roll my eyes after awhile.

 

I really did dig Molly Hatchet and didn't have to fake it. Haven't heard them in years so I wonder what my impression now would be.

Love ACDC. Then and now. Both versions too. Bon and Brian. :ylsuper:

Graduated from Conner in 1981. This album is still a great high school memory/association.

"Back in Black" was the first album I ever bought. I was only 10 when it released, and didn't get the album until I was 12, but I pretty much wore the grooves off it. I still love the album, although I really find "You Shook Me...." hard to listen to, as its really been played to death. AC/DC is still one of my favorite bands, and I love both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson. I really don't have a strong preference for Scott or Johnson like many people. I thought Johnson was pretty much shot in the 90's, but really the last two albums have been pretty solid, and his voice sounds better, mainly because I think he's brought it down a notch or two.

 

For something really interesting, look up And give a listen to Johnson's first group, Geordie. He sings many songs in a "normal" tone, and none of the songs reach the shrieking he does with AC/DC. It's not great music...some of it isn't bad, and it's not something I listen to very much. But it kinda fun for the novelty and to hear what he was like before AC/DC

I never paid much attention to Jackyl, but you're right he does sound like him.

 

Here's an example of the lead singer of Krokus, Marc Storace sounding like both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson at the same time. The music also is totally AC/DC.
