Federal government has no business in local education.

What is the agenda here?

Which one? There are multiple agendas going on with this story. Everyone has an agenda. The thread topic is TX conservatives trying to gloss over history and change it to their own outlook. Liberal news media is more concerned with making conservatives look bad than in that story. Conservative news media agenda is to minimize the story and make it not sound so bad rather than call it out so conservatives don't look so stupid. There is no story out there that doesn't involve someone slanting it to their political, social or religious agenda.

Please explain why, other than the simplistic "big bad government over reaching its boundaries" rhetoric. If we are going to continue to have standardized testing, FAFSA for universities, other nationwide academic standards, what could possibly be the downside to having a national base foundation for for what must be taught. I am not suggesting that the federal government declares that a school for example, teaches its students about slavery from a certain bias. I am merely suggesting that the federal government declares that a school teaches about slavery in general.

I would support a standardized curriculum, not sure what any downside would be, I can't see any.

Education isn't a job of the Federal government as listed in the constitution therefore it's duties are left to state and local government.

The more control and flexibility provided to local people the better the education will be

Continuing to bloat education through federal government bureaucracy will not improve education.

The continued reliance on the Federal government to solve all your problems is non sense.

Even if there are agendas, that doesn't mean they are wrong. We are talking about minimizing slavery and the Jim Crow era, for Pete's sake! How many generations before Americans don't even know anything about those topics? Hyperbole, I suppose, but I would bet that most people now can't tell you any specifics about Wounded Knee, Sand Creek, Washita, etc.

I love my country, even with its flaws of the past and present. This revision of history is very sad to me.

I agree, US history has been experiencing these types of revisionist history in one type or another for as long as history has been taught. It's been changed and used to reflect a particular social, political or religious ideology by any number of parties.

As to agendas, the concern is when they are used in a way that distracts from the main storyline.

I also agree that not telling the whole truth on History is counter productive.

I just don't think the answer is more Federal government.

Lipton, we agree. Until the Feds fund the majority of education they don't get to decide what the curriculum looks like.

Bolded should be your quote below your handle :ylsuper:

What I keep saying. But they don't ask me.

And you should know...you fought at Bull Run and Perryville didnt you?:)

Haha you are right. I rarely think the Fed is the answer.

The Fed should not be spending more money on education. That is local tax dollar responsibility.
