AAU State Tournament

PizzaBoy, I agree and disagree. DS Allstars were not ready to play as a team. Adding Al Murray would have helped provided depth in the post area, not certain if he would have changed the entire complexion of the game and outcome. With Arrez Henderson, you get a more verstile player on the court. He is solid in both half court and full court games. His scoring presense and ability to hit the board from the wing spot would have made a very solid impact on the games.

IMO they would have beat the Jazz in pool play which would have had them playing the Truth instead of Charlotte which is a lot better team than the Truth. Then they would have played the Royals in the semis.

I am not sure how you can say they would have beaten the Jazz in pool play. The jazz played very well all weekend and won every game except the finals by double digits. I agree one player helps a team but I am not sure one player completely changes the game.

The Jazz only beat DS by 10 points without big Al. IMO-- Al Murray would have made up more than those 10 points with his ability to score and his defensive skills.

Let's put it this way. If Derek Smith would have had Al Murry and the Hawks had Arrez Henderson it might have been a whole different out come in the AAU State tournament. Both of these kids are VERY GOOD players. I have coached against both of these teams earlier this season and lost to them with their full squad.

Thanks for your input.

Would have is what you are saying....and if the Jazz would have maybe had Arrez Henderson on there team they would maybe be that much better right. Give them props for their accomplishment and be done with it.

Heck, my boys 11U team beat a team 2 times in one season by over 10 pts each time... we play them in the tournament, they bring in a ringer who they say "was listed on their roster all season" however didnt play in any games until the tournament and we lose by 3 pts. Oh, the would haves......

I think you meant to say if the Hawks not Jazz would have had Arrez Henderson, things might have been different.

How did that football player do in the tourney for the Jazz?

(Drew Simons). Has the fence between he and Willie been mended?? Or is he playing to "stay in shape" for the "run to state" this year in football?

Not sure, they played in a tournament up in Franklin OH this past weekend so possibly another member on here could give us the results.

Word on the street in the Fort is that he will be back on the hardwood again this year.

The Jazz did play in Franklin this past weekend. I heard that they won the tournament and beat every team by more than 15 points. I was also told that in the last 12 games played including the state AAU tournament they have beaten every team except one by double digits. It sounds as if they have a very sound team and maybe they should start getting the credit they deserve. They have only been beaten by one local U16 team this year and lost to one other U16 in Columbus. The fact is they beat a very talented DS team with or without Big Al and they beat every other team that weekend by 20 points or more until the finals. They then beat Charlotte Court, which is extremely talented in the finals by 4 points.

I heard he was going to play this year and that he really missed it last year. I heard that Highlands' first open gym is tonight so I guess we will know after tonight if he is playing or not.

I definitely give the Jazz props on the win, both against Ds and the whole AAU tourny. Speaking of the win against DS, Al Murry tore his ACL 5 days prior, Adam Decker (point guard) did not play the last 4-5 minutes of the game due to chipped bone in left hand. Jazz up by 2 and DS had the ball with a minute left. One of the new guys took a bad shot, Jazz got fast break and the player who took the bad shot fouled the player and the Jazz made the basket. He yelled at the ref and then got a tech. 3 point play, technical shots and the ball. DS had to foul and the lead pushed up to 10. DS hit zero 3's for the game. No excuses made, Jazz were hungry and deserved to win. You can always say what if, live and learn.

Thanks for your input.

The reason Decker missed almost the whole fourth quarter against the Jazz in pool play is because in one of the plays he chipped a bone on his thumb and he sat out i think if he didnt get hurt it would be a different out come.

Looks to me like the Jazz were totally lucky to win this game. What a shame about the unfortunate instances that hounded DS at the wrong time.

Surprised everyone from NKy has not responded to the comment. Jazz have a very good team, they are deceiving. Their bigs are not really tall, but have good length and can jump. Their group is very hard nosed and they just smacked DS in the chin from the start. They jumped out early and then it was catchup after that. The new guys that were picked up have never played in that type of environment and they were on their heals the whole game. The Jazz only has about 3 players from their old team and the new additions were hungry and excited about the opportunity. They beat a very good Charlotte Court in the championship so you have to give them props. I do believe if DS and Jazz played again it may be a different outcome. Their coaches have always done a good job and have class. Hats off to them.
