Just got off the phone with the guys at KBA in Lexington. They are changing the AAU 16/17 State Championship banner/logo to "Derek Smith Allstar Invitationals."

One of the Derek Smith teams lost in pool play and its the East team. The 16U is in a dog fight in the first round of tournamnent play with the Charlotte Court team. The 17U looks good to repeat but the the competition is much better this year. The weekend has been outstanding so far and all the coaches have been great.

The Scott Co.players are on the three teams. Haddix and Portwood Derek Smith East 17's. Bluegrass Stars are Walls and Hundley, James and at least 4 others that have contributed. Bluegrass won their pool in the 17U. Mackey and Givens are on the Charlotte Court 16U. The Lee kid hurt his shoulder and will have surgery next week. Will be out for 6 months.

Coleman rolling ankle for west (well those are as good excuses as any) interesting games with the shining stars, stars had both Derek Smith teams down by around 25 ony to see both Derek smith teams fight back and take the lead, only for the stars to find a way to win it in the end, gotta give credit to shining stars for finding a way to win.

Central Kentucky Warriors ended up winning 17u again, bluegrass stars probally played the best team ball of any team I saw this weekend, anyone have the score between them and the Warriors?

Who played for the Warriors besides Antonio Owens and Jaron Jones?

The Warriors had no one even close to them in this tournament, no one. I think their average margin of victory was some where between 29-35 points. Exciting team to watch play.

The N.KY Royals 17u beat South Laurel and Higher Level, then lost to the Warriors, and they finished as the 2 seed in their pool. The Royals played the Shining Stars in the quarterfinal and the game was within 2-3 points to the last 3 minutes of the game, but then the Royals ran out of gas.

 

The Shining Stars beat Derek Smith in the semi-finals today, but then lost to the Central KY Warriors in the championship game.

 

The N.KY Royals 16u finished as a 2 seed in their pool, but lost to the N.KY Jazz in the semi-finals. The Royals did finish in 3rd place by beating the N.KY Hawks in the consolation game today.

 

The N.KY Jazz won the 16u state championship game by beating Charlotte Court today.

Anyone else hear about the end of the NKY Royals- Shining Star game? :fire: :fire:

 

16U Charlotte Court was made up mostly of kids who played for the 17U Suns, and competed on both levels. I think that Bud Mackey played for them.

I did not see Stephon Pettigrew play last year but judging from what I saw this weekend, he is (and probably was last year) the best player in the state.

Lost to NKY Jazz in pool play (went 2-1). Came out flat and never really got going. Picked up two new big guys two days prior b/c Al Murry tore his ACL the week prior. This caused them to play Charlotte Ct first round of the tourny. Charlotte on fire from behind the arc, Bud Mackey got in a zone and a few guys who don't normally shoot well hit some key 3's. Adam Decker missed the first half due to PRP awards. 2nd half down by 20, cut it to 5 but couldn't get over the hump. Disappointing weekend for them over all. Couldn't seem to bring it together as a team.
