July 8, 201511 yr Those acorns are probably the best value there is for a kamado style grill. I've been contemplating getting one, but I need another grill about as much as I need another hole in my head.
July 8, 201511 yr I've been through several of the ones from Lowes, etc. and they last a couple/few years and are shot. I've had two Weber grills in my life and you should do yourself a favor, spend the extra money and get the Weber. I have a Weber three burner and it is fantastic. Holds up great and if you need to replace parts, they are available. You can sped $200-$300 every three years if you want, but the Weber's last forever.
July 8, 201511 yr I think a lot of a grill's durability depends on how well it's taken care of. You can buy a pretty cheap grill, and if you take good care of it, it'll last you a long time. Conversely, you can spend a lot of money on a nice one, and if you don't care for it, it'll be shot in no time.
July 8, 201511 yr Author I just bought a Char-Griller Acorn for $220. It's a kamado style grill (think big green egg). It uses lump charcoal (at Walmart or Home Depot 27 lbs for about $14). It can cook 200 degrees to over 700, smoke ribs or pork butts slow and low or sear steaks, even bake pizza or bread, pie etc. I made smoked 3 racks of baby backs this weekend and corn on the cob (grilled in husk), and potatoes, was really good From where did you get it Pete?

I replaced a wheel the broke, the heat vent things a few times, gas control valve cable once, but other than that its as good as used can get.

That should be a no-brainer for anyone purchasing a grill.
July 8, 201511 yr Got it from Amazon, they were on sale Father's Day weekend, but got back ordered, just got it last Tuesday. They were also on sale at Lowe's, Home Depot, and Target at same time.
July 8, 201511 yr If you are in market for a ceramic Kamado style grill, the Kamado Joe Costco Road Show will be in Louisville 7/17-7/26, they will have the Big Joe 23" for $1199, Classic 18" for $779, and Joe Jr for $399. July 9, 201511 yr Haven't read the suggestions I the thread, but I found a very good grill at Bass Pro Shops at the end of the season a couple of years ago. They mark them down by half. Haven't been there lately so not sure if they are marked down yet, but I got my 4 burner with another side burner stainless steel for 225.00. Originally 500+
