Cov Cath has long been struggling to find the middle ground in non-district scheduling. If you ask me, they should be going for tough, but not too tough. That's something that just hasn't happened in the last 10-12 years (this year's schedule being a virtual worst-case scenario). They need to keep the teams like Moeller/Cincy St. X/Lou St. X/Elder/Bishop Watterson to a minimum...I'd say 1 team like that per year, tops. Then, so long as it's an option, they can fill in the blanks with teams like Dixie, Simon Kenton, Ryle, and so on. The fact is, the Colonels have been beaten up in non-district play over the last decade.

 

I don't know of many times where Cov Cath has out and blamed their losses to Highlands "on an injury", as was implied, but if that's how you feel, that's how you feel. Fact is, they haven't beaten Highlands, much to all of the Cov Cath community and my disappointment. Still, to use that single qualifier to label the team "pretender" is not really accurate as far as I'm concerned. By that measuring stick, then wouldn't every single other team in the state of Kentucky (and in other states) that has lost to Highlands "a pretender"?

 

Now, one argument I'd make in recent years is the fact that Cov Cath's lack of full-speed practice has been crippling them. Football technique, as with any athletic technique, is HIGHLY based on muscle memory. When muscle memory doesn't involve performing things like blocking and tackling at full speed, and when "tackling" in practice means whistles blowing and things stopping the very instant that initial contact is made, then things aren't going to pan out very well on the playing field come gameday. Here's to hoping that the new coaching staff thinks it's worth getting some scratches and bruises here and there in practice in order to teach a little resolve and toughness.

I didnt use the word jumping ship, history states he doesnt stay in one place very long.

Covcath will have the horses this year to beat Highlands. They need to change the mentality of the program.

That was an embarrassment last season. Without going into detail, I've no doubt whatsoever that it will not be an issue under Coach Eviston.

Let's call it like it is...Covington Catholic has not had a football coach or much of a program since 2006. The gap between Highlands and CCH has to narrow a bit just because of the coaching improvement. I refuse to believe that Highlands domination is a result of superior talent, year in and year out. Coach Eviston has an uphill battle but I know the school and I know Eddie...it's a great fit.
