If coach Letton wants to continue the offensive style of his predecessor, Bob Sphire, (and why wouldn't he), than I suspect Dusty would have learned something about the system after having played for Sphire with the Horsemen. Who else would have been as well qualified? Dusty has managed to keep a positive attitude about Lexington despite the treatment he received by Mumme so, he also seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I couldn't be more pleased with the choice.

Not to question anyone--but what makes this a good hire?

 

A couple thoughts:

1. Being a solid qb doesn't mean you are going to be a good coach

2. Coaching experience? (Is there any? For a high profile situation like LexCath--you would like to hope that there is).

 

I wish Coach Bonner nothing but good fortune. He obviously has the heart to coach. I just think it is hard to say that this is a good hire until "after" the first year.

 

While not commenting on this specific case, your questions/concerns are more than fair.

You also have to think about Dusty playing for coach Hatcher. Coach Hatcher used to be at UK. He went to Valdosta state and won the National Chapionship. Dusty has been in that system for a long time and a lot of what Lex Cath does evolved from that system so I think he is pretty battle tested to help teach it.

Talk about getting richer, is there any school around that has gotten the number of experienced, top quality people as asst coaches, in multiple sports over the last year or two than those Rams of yours ??

I wish we had several of those guys. We could start with that big tall guy in your dugout

You are absolutely right about the new hires that have came in to my Raceland lately Woody:thumb: . I am very pleased with these guys (and ladies). We at "Ram Land" imo have been blessed in the addition of Gerad Parker (former Lawrence Co. and U.K. player) in football, I am happier with him than any of them:banana: :banana: , I just really hope that we can keep him down here. Parkers wife Kandi, former West Carter h.s. and Ky. POY plus Morehead State player. Parker is the former K. Brown, daughter of the beloved and missed "Hop" Brown (former coach at West) and has also been a valuble addition in girls b.b.:jump: T.J. Maynard in football has also been a valuble addition to the football staff (Former U.K. football player and Greenup Co. head coach). Jason Clark (boys basketball asst.) spent time at Arkansas coaching under Nolan Richardson. Drew Hall, last but not least and your "big tall guy" from Ashland in baseball has really made a difference imo in the Rams pitching staff. I don't mind you calling me out on this one at all :lol: I hope that Raceland can keep these people, if so the Rams athletic programs will be in very good hands in the future. All of these along with Bob Trimble in girls b.b. would make very good head coaches imo.

LC is a Tony Franklin System client, Dusty played for Tony Franklin at UK and with the Horsemen, and also in a similar system at Valdosta State. I know Dusty personally, he is going to make a very good coach. It's not like he has to start from scratch or do it all himself.

Not knowing Bonner more than I do, which is just from hearing him speak to groups, I believe he will great. I also fully agree with what you said Slugo. :thumb:

:thumb: A good friend od mine was at the U.K. practice facility the day Bonner left the team. He (friend) was watching his boy at a U.K. football camp for h.s. athletes. He said that it was a bad situation and Bonner handled it with class, which is much more than I can say for the U.K. coach at that time. Bonner went on to set passing records and had a good run in arena football. IMO Dusty was done horribly wrong by Hal Dumme (I mean Mumme) and rose above it.

Don't know if there is a link or not, but wkyt news out of Lexington did do a piece / report on this along with him being in the front office fro the Horsemen.
