Ram Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 What does Newport Central Catholic need to do to improve in 2015? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.
uk#1fan Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 NewCath will be lead by one of their best running backs ever in Jacob Smith.
coach1980 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) Blocking has to be there . How experienced and physical is the line expected to be ? Any new talent? If they can get the blocking and balance the offense on passing . I think they will be contenders and exciting to watch !!! I hope they do very well !! Edited June 2, 2015 by coach1980 punctuations

KentuckyJoe Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 O line and the play of the D will dictate how far this years NewCath can go.

The Kelly boys, Steve Everson (1,015 - 2nd most rushing attps. in State history), Mike Robinson (starting DB at Kentucky), Tim Jurgens, just to name a few.
sportsfan2012 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Don't think Smith will be the best to ever come out of NCC but we are definitely excited to see this season play out. With Lawrence, Winters, Kues, Pangallo, Neff, Davis to name just a few to go along with Smith and Harris it should be an exciting season from those boys on the hill.
uk#1fan Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Jacob Smith has over 2700 yards rushing over 40 rushing tds and has caught over 50 passes over 800 yards receiving. Over 50 touchdowns total. Pretty impressive.

Pretty impressive. He should be in the discussion, but I don't think his NewCath teams have played the quality of opponents that those other guys did. The numbers put him in the conversation regardless.

cathbird Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Really? NewCath usually plays 6A teams every season and made to state finals every year he has played. They always play some 6a teams. Some of those other guys played in State championships as well. Not knocking any of Jake's achievements because he has had a tremendous career, but last season they played Lloyd, Newport, Brossart and Holy Cross in the regular season. I understand that those are district games. That's an easy 750 yards for a good running back. Their road to state was a cake walk against Owen County, Walton Verona, and Gallatin County.

Not to get into this but I'm pretty sure we have played those same district games for at 15 yrs. Also, not that last yr was any harder because it wasn't but we played Trimble County, Lloyd, Newport and Shelby Valley to make it to state.

You don't even know what you are talking about! They didn't play Owen County, Walton Verona or Gallatin County last year!
cathbird Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 You don't even know what you are talking about! They didn't play Owen County, Walton Verona or Gallatin County last year! Yeah you're right I looked at the schedule for 2013. NewCath played Trimble County, Lloyd, Newport and Shelby Valley to make it to state last year. So that's actually 2 years in a row of cake walks to the finals. I think that actually strengthens my point.
KentuckyJoe Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 The NewCath non district schedule is amazingly tough for a co-ed school under 400 kids. I believe the class that graduated last weekend only had 74 seniors. The Breds play schools with several hundred kids per class. Anyone who tries to knock the Breds schedule has no clue what they are talking about.
