Couple of quick points from a fan of the program perspective. 1) Coach Stowers is outstanding and any program would be in good hands with him as head coach 2) Don't really think majority Ryle fans/players/parents have issue with coach that runs team without parental influence ..3) While we see the point that a "Stowers" type may not be available...it's very possible there are very good candidates interested and itching for this opportunity...

Jeff's interactions with parents are very limited, most likely intentionally. He doesn't seem to care what position or how many minutes your daughter gets to play, if any at all.

 

He'd be a nightmare for Ryle parents.

How many times do we hear the same story at various schools ? What in the wide wide world of sports is going on in these high schools ? Just all helicopter parents all the time ?

 

I don't think it neccessarily is helicopter parenting. Parents naturally want to protect their kids. They are biased to their kids. And I'm not saying Coach Jackson was without flaws, but when the gang mentality seizes on these flaws, it gets pretty nasty. That's why we see this scenario play out across the high school landscape. All it requires is protective parents (not neccessarily bad thing), a flawed coach (which they all are because they are human like the rest of us), and the gang mentality (usually started by one or more A-type personalities who spread it to the majority of the parents involved).

 

This is not an indictment on all the parents of Ryle. It comes from a good place, I truly believe that. Sometimes the situation just spirals to where it is now. I truly hope they find the right coach to bring this team to it's full potential.

I think it takes an older, experienced coach to do this. New coaches often times want to be "buddies" with everybody. If you open yourself up to "friendly" parents, you are also open to "unfriendly" ones when things don't go how they think they should.

 

This is why Stowers comes to mind. A seasoned coach is there to coach, develop players and build a program!

Very misguided comment. I have no dog in the fight but saw many of the Ryle girl games this year and the parents were not an issue. It was pretty clear who should play and who were the better players. I don't know anything about this coach that you mention but I don't think he would be a nightmare to anyone.

It seems like we see this theme of too much parent involvement in Ryle threads in all sports. That makes me think there is an administration problem more than a parent problem.

I think Ryle is an enigma. There's something not right across the board in all sports. They are a large school, have first class facilities and gear, churn out DI athletes, and frankly I'm betting the household income level per student is way above other schools.

 

But none of that is translating to athletic success. In the "money" sports of football and boys basketball, neither has made any real noise since the 2010 season. On a broader scale including all sports, there's no sustained success across the board.

Define sustained success in all sports. District championships? 20 win seasons? Regional championships? What other sports are they not having so called success in? The two programs you mentioned have made leadership changes recently and both appear to be headed in the right direction. Also. The 33 rd is tough. Put any program in Nky in that district and they would not get out every year

When you say dominate, What do you expect? Should they be the best overall sports program in Nky in your opinion?

Ryle "churns" out DI athletes really? In 23 years they have had 1 boys basketball player, 2 Girls basketballplayers, 2 Softball players and 3 baseball players go DI. Not sure on all sports but I would guess that it is not much different than most large schools in Nky.
