I hope the kids get a coach soon because it is unfair to them to not get to play this summer. But when the next coach doesn't win.........they cant coach either????? That seems to be a pattern at RHS? If winning the region is the standard for "being able to coach" only 16 people fit that description each year.

Will the coaching change effect the decisions of two 8th graders (McGregor, L. Schwartz) or any others? I haven't heard if they were planning on attending Ryle or looking at other options.

McGregor and Lauren Schwartz will be freshmen this year. Ryle allows freshmen to play varsity. The one who could be affected would be Maddie Scherr since she will just be in 8th grade.

I don't think Ryle defines "winning" as "coaching". But it would be nice to have someone who can develop talent and play to the strengths that you have. Not always trying to force "their system" on a group of players who may or may not be best suited to play that way. Also it would be nice to have a coach who doesn't have their own agenda but rather the good of the program in mind.

I meant will McGegor/L. Schwartz attend Ryle? Rumors at end of last year was the possibility they'd look at other schools considering the (coaching) staff that was in place.

Some thoughts on the pros and cons of this job:

Pros:

1) Incredible talent currently in house - seniors down to freshmen

2) Large talent pool for the future

3) District that you can get out of with some degree of regularity

4) It's a definite chance to win the region now.

 

Cons:

1) Talented players always can find ways to move "greener pastures"

2) Even during the best years, it is not unreasonable to think that Boone, Conner, or Cooper could upset you in the district elimination game.

3) Expectations are through the roof.

4) What kind of mindset are the parents in when it comes to welcoming the new coach?

 

I just don't know if any coach is going to be good enough for the parents.

How many times do we hear the same story at various schools ? What in the wide wide world of sports is going on in these high schools ? Just all helicopter parents all the time ?

If they can find the likes of a Stowers from SK, it would catapult the program tremendously in areas on and off the court!

Jeff's interactions with parents are very limited, most likely intentionally. He doesn't seem to care what position or how many minutes your daughter gets to play, if any at all.

 

He'd be a nightmare for Ryle parents.

Whose coaching them for summer ball? I understand they are playing in Frankfort tonight against Franklin County & Clark County.

I think it takes an older, experienced coach to do this. New coaches often times want to be "buddies" with everybody. If you open yourself up to "friendly" parents, you are also open to "unfriendly" ones when things don't go how they think they should.

Very well said. It goes back, for me, to treating everyone fairly and always focusing on the kids, not yourself or the parents.
