I think Clyde is referring to a certain poster last year that fearlessly predicted that his son would be the starting QB for Conner, which ultimately did not work out that way.

It's one thing, and nothing wrong with it, to promote your kid as he did but it's an entirely different thing to bash the player that beat him out and the coaching staff and the entire team and to blame games they lost on the kid who beat him out.

 

He was warned several different times not to throw the team under the bus and that maybe little johnny just wasn't the best option at QB but he kept it up until he and his kid left the team. Shame when parents take it so far that they basically force their kid into quitting a team in their senior season just because dad filled his head with the belief that he should be starting QB and if he isn't then the entire team and coaches must be against him that it forces the kid to quit.

I was told this week that Ian Collier is moving back to Indiana. I was really looking forward to watching him play this year on both sides of the ball. Tough loss for both Trosper and Hicks for the upcoming school year.

A few observations after attending the Conner intra-squad scrimmage today:

 

1. Conner is clearly a much bigger, stronger, and faster team than last year. Especially up front on both the offensive and defensive lines

 

2. Conner will score a lot of points this year

 

3. Kicker Nate Eberhard is going to have a great season

 

4. Appears Padgett is going both ways at both QB and CB

 

5. Ebarb, Buckler, and Nyers are going to have big, big years on offense

 

6. Defense seemed to swarm to the ball a little better than years past, but, will continue to be the X-Factor

 

7. This team genuinely seems to like each other and has very good chemistry. A lot of kids rooting for/pulling for others.

 

Again, only an intra-squad scrimmage, but saw a lot of positives today.

Good article. Looking for a good season from the Cougars. Is Buckler a senior as the article stated? Thought he was an underclassman.

One year should make this team a little better,, maturity and experience helps. However,, I have not heard who Conner has scrimmaged or if they have shown improvement over last year. Any word on how they have looked other than the intra-squad scrimmage mentioned in this thread?

Not trying to start an argument at all as I respect your opinion and was not at the scrimmage but I heard from a few folks in attendance at the scrimmage that both teams were not close to "solid"

 

Again, just going on what I have heard and I know that does not hold very much merit. Who looked good Clyde? And how did they look better than last year?

I wasn't there. I heard some people say what you heard. I said "solid" because their D looked better after the first couple of series. It was something to build upon. Nothing more.

 

Conner will be better this year. Not sure how the W/L will turn out but they will be better.

It is good to hear that their D is improving, that has always been the biggest question mark in Trosper's tenure, as I am sure it will still be this year as well. Is Helmig still the DC out there? They have always been able to score points, but haven't consistently been able to stop people from scoring. Padgett is definitely a nice threat to have with Ebarb.

 

I do not know much about Boone but that should be a good game for Conner to build some confidence and put everything together as I assume the Rebels will struggle this year.

I was at the Beechwood Conner scrimmage. Conner looks slightly better than last year, but a lot can change from a first scrimmage. The defense did look better. Padgett looked better at QB than he did last year, which you would expect with a year of experience. Padget did not show a lot throwing the ball but he was really good at running the read option and at scrambling when under pressure. It was a sloppy scrimmage by both teams though. A lot of penalties and too many turnovers.

It was a good write up. I did not realize they had returned that many starters on both sides of the ball.
