mcpapa
...with which I'm not familiar. Won today's Wells Fargo by 7 shots. Broke the tournament scoring record by 5 shots. Case in point. 514-yard par-4 16th hole. 364-yard drive, gap wedge to within a couple of feet. I could have made the putt. http://www.pgatour.com/leaderboard.html

98NCCalum
Since when is a 514 yard hole considered a par-4?:wideyed:I typically would agree as this is getting pretty common on tour to have some 500 yard pr 4's.. however the tour driving average is still under 300 yards. Which still leaves a 214 yard approach. they would crush it as a 5, but it seems a lil long to be a 4. It's one of those that could be either, IMO. The Professor
As the technology in golf equipment has improved the clubs have adjusted by increasing the lenghth of their courses, but that still doesn't hinder most of these guys, particularly Rory. mcpapa
As the technology in golf equipment has improved the clubs have adjusted by increasing the lenghth of their courses, but that still doesn't hinder most of these guys, particularly Rory. When I was watching Rory on that hole, he flew the bunker on the right side of the fairway, which was about 305 yards off the tee. The commentators said that a few decades ago, course architects typically placed "turning point" bunkers about 260 yards off the tee. Now it's in the 300-305 range. They speculated that if guys like Rory kept demolishing holes like this, they might have to go out to 330 or so. In any event, I ain't in any danger of reaching them. doomer
A few comments: Rory will get older like the rest of us and throw his back out. Not too many guys hit the ball as far as he does AND score like he does. Chicks dig the long ball.
