I do find this interested, considering an Asst Super told me directly they had the money for facility upgrades to both stadiums back in October last year.......................So where did the money go?

The aerial view of the field is an old pic from about 5 years ago. The field is in much worse shape now.

Newspaper article said that it would cost around $225K per year for 8 years to pay for the fields if they issued a bond to do it. Board member said that if you take the emotion out of it that it just didn't make sense at this point financially.

 

It was also suggested that maybe one field be completed now and another one later...that idea I don't think would go over very well...especially if they chose to do Southwestern's field first.

They would never do SW first... It would just be funny for me to see.

I don't know but they have computer labs in the system with broken unusable computers, maybe some is going there.

Getting away from some silly fairness game — I know, I know, this is Somerset we're talking about — it's pointless for a school system to try to do both at the same time.

 

Fix the one with the most urgent needs immediately, and put a plan in place to rotate out facilities upgrades at the schools over 10/15/20/whatever year period.

 

If a particular school's booster club can get it fixed quicker by raising the funds themselves, so be it.

School board budget is tight and while they have the ability to pay for it, it's just fiscally more responsible to do without. Whoever is responsible for upkeep on that field needs to be questioned. There isn't much of an excuse for it to be in that shape. A responsible booster club addresses turfing issues so if it's bad and has been bad, raise the money and take care of it.

 

I do feel for the kids and staff after being told they were getting it and then being denied. That's uncool. However, if you can win it all without it then this changes nothing.

Good things and bad things about multiple high schools w/in the same school district.

 

The bad? You can't get a roll of toilet paper w/out making sure the others get one, too.

Many have said turf is cheaper than grass in the long haul. BOTH have expected turf and have done very little spring work to prep. Neither may have a playoff type field.

Questions:

 

• What kind of shape is SW's field in relative to PC's? I remember PC's field being in bad shape when I lived in that area more than a decade ago. Always seemed SW's was in better shape, but I don't know if that had anything to do with where the two were in the maintenance schedule.

 

• Are those who are private folks donating intending it only for PC's field?

 

• If SW's field is in decidedly better shape, and PC's is a more urgent repair need, why not just go ahead and do one? Locally, Nelson Co. has a turf field but Thomas Nelson (also county school) does not. Both are nice fields.

 

• If there are people suggesting other sports shouldn't be allowed to use a new turf field, well, that's just silly. It's pointless to pay that much money for it and not use it as much as possible. Football can practice early on it and get out of the way for soccer games. A little drill work on the practice field won't hurt them for the last half-hour a couple days a week.

I wasn't speaking about the superintendent specifically. There may be other powers within that administration — such as a school board upon whose wishes the super must act — who might have a different idea of how the field should and shouldn't be used.

 

For me personally, it would be silly to have a field like that and not use it as much as possible for everybody.
