Congrats to Ryle HS's own Conner Hempel

Conner did in fact sign with the Colts and as his first football coach I cannot be more excited for him. As good of a football player that he is he's an even greater young man so for me whether he makes it or not is as important as having the opportunity. He's worked hard and fought through injury so I personally am very proud. Congrats and Good luck Conner!!

He has set himself up for success either way, on or off the field, a Harvard diploma speaks very loudly:up:

According to his Twitter post he is just going to the Colts Mini Camp basically a tryout. Still unsigned. I was hoping he signed with a team where he could make it on a roster like the Rams, Jets or other teams. The Colts usually only keep 2 qbs on their roster.

Whether he signed or not, the opportunity is there. I wish the best for him. A truly great kid with a good head on his shoulders. Wonderful family.

Conner was 6th or 7th string his first year.

I am surprised the Bengals didn't try to sign him.

They did have him in for a workout prior to the draft. He had a few other teams talking to him this weekend about attending their camp.

Although not his first, I am right there with you!:thumb:

Hmm, guess he must have had a coach before the 4th grade when he 1st played organized football. Not that it matters.

Conner has an un-drafted free agent contract for Spring Training, that is probably structured something like this. (So, Yes….he has signed)

Training Camp

Once training camp starts, all rookies (drafted and undrafted) get per diem payment which isn't that bad considering that housing and meals are provided by the team. Veterans get slightly more at $1,600 a week. These payments end one week before the regular season opener, and base salaries then commence in 17 installments over the course of the regular season.

Kudos to Conner, great young man indeed. Really hoping Hard Knocks will follow the COLTS. Would love to watch him make the team and see his grind.

Poor writing skills on my part. I was trying to say that even though I was not his first coach, I agree with everything you posted!

Lol I gotcha! Bottom line WE want Conner to succeed. What a great opportunity and that's all you can ask for at that level. Let it fly!

So that we do not upset my friend Colleen let's be clear on the spelling.

Hempel.

Dang! My apologies to Conner. Was going off the thread title. My biggest pet peeve.

No sweat. I grew up with his mom. I'm sure they have to spell it all the time.
