May 3, 200620 yr I understand there is a push being made by some superintendents for the infamous 3-part referendum to be mailed to members for a vote before the end of the school year. I thought the BOE told them no dice even if it passes... These public school powers to be are a stubborn bunch when it comes to helping their school get ahead. Anyone?
May 3, 200620 yr Is that not against the bylaws of KHSAA or do rules mean nothing to them? They tried it by the rules and failed now they are going to try to do it outside the rules. And they are supposed to be the ones taking the moral high ground.
May 3, 200620 yr My understanding that we have just seen Act I of this play. We are presently in an intermission and Act II will commence in October 2006. Guess that means another year for this "trial" thread.
May 3, 200620 yr Even if (and that is a BIG IF), they were successful in their attempts to get something passed, it still has to go back to the Board. And since they already said no way, they are wasting their time. Even if the Board decided that they would allow it, I can't see it taking effect for another year anyway, but don't see it happening.

I think you are right on the time frame. http://www.khsaa.org/news/20052006/nr022006.pdf BOARD SETS 2006 FOOTBALL PLAYOFF SCHEDULE The KHSAA Board of Control, at its meeting on Monday, approved the schedule of games for the 2006 KHSAA State Football Championships to be played at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville. The Class 4A Championship will be Thursday, Nov. 30 with a tripleheader set for Friday, Dec. 1. The 4A contest will kick off at 7:30 p.m. (ET). Friday’s schedule will have the Class AA Championship at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Class A Championship at 3:30 p.m. and the Class AAA Championship at 7:30 p.m. The schedule was approved due to the University of Louisville’s Big East home game scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2. This was done back in February and possibly would be impossible to change for the 2006 season. It seems the status quo will continue and about 80% of the students in the state of KY will be given zero to minimal chance to compete. AND BEFORE anyone jumps on my back about that statement, remember my proposal did not split at a private/public level but at a size and urban/rural status.
May 3, 200620 yr It seems the status quo will continue and about 80% of the students in the state of KY will be given zero to minimal chance to compete. What a defeatist attitude. Is this really the attitude you teach your players?
May 3, 200620 yr What a defeatist attitude. Is this really the attitude you teach your players? Whatever. Reality is reality no matter how you try and rah-rah it up. Or I guess Luxomberg basketball team should be expecting to beat the USA basketball team at the Olympics. If my basketball team made up of 10 young ladies from our county of 15,000 played Lex Catholic and their compilation of the best players in the surrounding counties, 1,000 times we may win once. That is reality. Now I would coach them that all we need is that one time to be this one time.

I still insist adding classes to the other sports would be a huge step in the right direction (leave basketball alone as far as I am concerned). Approx 200 schools play golf, have swim teams and play baseball or softball.....split these into three classes like track and cross country.

May 4, 200620 yr What is the 3-part referendum? It was the 3 proposals that were sent to the KY Board of Education. The BOE did not want to rule on them till the Delegate Assembly had a chance to either accept or reject them. 1) Financial Aid 2) Middle School Student/Athletes Eligibility 3) Feeder Systems
May 4, 200620 yr It was the 3 proposals that were sent to the KY Board of Education. The BOE did not want to rule on them till the Delegate Assembly had a chance to either accept or reject them. 1) Financial Aid 2) Middle School Student/Athletes Eligibility 3) Feeder Systems Actually the BOE could not rule on them, under the KHSAA constitution, until the delegates acted. But they made it very clear in the hearing at which they discussed the three compromise proposals that they were not even close to be in favor of the two proposals dealing with 7 & 8 grade participation and a feeder school limitations. My guess is that the KHSAA also spoke with the BOE and had such confirmed and rather that sending the proposals out for a referendum, is doing the smart thing and trying to come up with some new proposals that won't give the publics schools everything they wanted, but will have a chance of getting approved by the BOE. Otherwise, they'd just be wasting even more time and getting people even more upset with the situation. If after 3 or 4 years the new proposals are still not working, then the KHSAA could at least tell the BOE that they tried the new proposals but more drastic measures need to be taken. No reason to go hunting mice with a 12 gauge until you've tried a .410 and found out it won't work.
May 5, 200620 yr I guess Luxomberg basketball team should be expecting to beat the USA basketball team at the Olympics. Seriously LBBC, your boys team has been able to compete with anybody in the state the last couple of years, haven't they? Why are the girls so much different?

Maybe I am wrong, but from what I saw that day, they were not opposed to the 7th and 8th grade "playing up" proposal but were opposed to requiring students to select schools for high school (grade 9) prior to grade 7. Is that what you meant? But by far the biggest opposition I saw was to any way, shape, form or fashion of a two-year penalty. Did you get the same read?
May 5, 200620 yr I would think that the BOE would be in favor of a middle school student that played on a high school team having to sit out a year if they transfer, just like the high school players. From my understanding, the BOE thought that the two year ban was not in the best interest of the kids.
