April 23, 201511 yr He is horrible. Again show me any coach over 12 years with a record as bad. Thats all anyone has to do. If you can't. Then show me a coach who has lost his first 6 post season games with the same team. If if you can't do that then list the coaches who are 0-6 in the playoffs in their careers or worse. On the other hand I would think the list of coaches making the playoffs four straight years and and six of twelve years is pretty short. Still, it's time for a change, just don't know who would be available that would be better and who would be interested.

First he'll turn 72 this year, so he'd be a short term hire at best. Second, his playoff record lackluster at best. 5-13 in the playoffs, and no wins in his last 11 seasons as a coach, a few of which he had what was considered the best team in his conference (2006/2004 Chargers, 1995/1997 Chiefs). He basically was what Marvin Lewis is now, in the last half of his coaching career. What makes you think he'd be the guy to get the Bengals over the playoff hump, when he was pretty much let go from every job he had for not being able to get that team over the hump??

There is a reason that we can't reference coaches with 12 year reigns with a worse record. i believe there is only one coach that presently has that kind of tenure with the same team, and believe his record is a little more stellar than Marvin Lewis'.

That would be Mr. Belichick, and the resumes are laughable in comparison. You can also through Coughlin in the mix as well... Same length tenure as Lewis, only slightly better Winning %, but two Super Bowls, two conference titles, and the same amount of Division titles as Lewis.
April 23, 201511 yr Author Since 2011: Record Regular Season - 40-23-1 (only Belichek and Fox Better in AFC) Post Season - 0-4 - the problem, of course. He is not an awful coach, has just yet to win the big one.

List just got real short So he's at the bottom of the top of the list, which puts him average or even above average. Not horrible. The horrible ones haven't made playoffs in half their year's coaching.

Actually Marty's last 12 years in the NFL are not equal to Marvin's, Marty has 2 Playoff wins in that time frame. What makes me think he will do better than Marvin? Marty has won and improved the teams every where he has been including the UFL which he just won the championship there. He can adapt to the different styles and win. In Marty's career he has only had 1 losing season and 4 non winning seasons. Every time Marty took over as new HC for a team, that first year he improved the team from a losing record to a wining record every single time except for his only year with Washington where he finished 8-8 He has also made it to 3 AFCCG's. Sorry, I was off by a year. I should have said 11 instead of 12;-). And yes, he made the AFC Championship that year. But his other 2 trips to the Conference title game were almost 30 years ago. I'm not denying that Marty is probably a better coach than Marvin. But I still stand by the fact that Marty's recent history as an NFL coach, were quite frankly highlighted by underachieving, especially in the playoff's. And one could argue, he pretty much underachieved in the playoffs pretty much his whole coaching career. 5 wins in 18 years (and only one season with multiple playoff wins) is better than Marvin, but still not enough to go chasing an old guy down off the golf course to run your team for a few years.
