Marvin Lewis One Year Contract Extension

Featured Replies

Marty Schottenheimer has said in the past that he has zero interest in returning to coaching. There is certainly nothing that makes me think he would be interested in the Bengals.

So he's at the bottom of the top of the list, which puts him average or even above average. Not horrible. The horrible ones haven't made playoffs in half their year's coaching.

If he would have been with any other franchise in the NFL. He would have never made any list except the all gone list...

We should be grateful that Marvin stuck around to run this club. If not we'd have been through 3 or 4 other OC's or DC's that couldn't carry that guys lunch and we'd be 4-12 or 3-13 hoping to beat the Browns to stay above them in the standings. In case you missed the memo, playoff games are hard to win because there are good teams in the playoffs. Not every team has gotten to go for four straight years. It could be so much worse.

I don't doubt that at all. Mike Brown is unique to say the least.

He coached and won the championship in the UFL just 2 years ago. It's not as if he can't coach. I also listed John Gruden and if people want another name I will toss out Bill Cowher, Bill Parcells, I can keep going. I know none will come here mainly because Mike Brown doesn't like to hire big name proven coaches. If Marvin leaves we will be stuck with Hue Jackson as his replacement or someone similar.

He has a team friendly deal with Dalton and knows there is really no one he can get that is better right now. They also are not going to be bad enough for the next few years that they will draft in the Top 5-10 to get a 1st round college QB that can play immediately. I know many fans don't like it, but AD is here for the next 4-5 years. Take it to the bank, unless he gets injured really bad.

AD is the 17th highest paid QB which is probably where he ranks in the league as starting QB's go.

Mike Brown likes players like AD, he is very comfortable with him. That is Brown's mantra. He likes consistency and comfort. Not a Super Bowl winning formula, but it is who he is. They kept Robert Gaithers 2 years too long and looks like they are going to do the same with Peko.

Completely disagree. Keeping Dalton if he fails this year would hurt Brown business wise to keep a guy he can't win big games with. Yes he is 17th highest paid qb in league now but that price starts going up next year.

You say they won't have a top pick to start immediately. Well Dalton wasnt a top pick and he started immediately. When you have other pieces around a guy you can start someone immediately. With so many guys being free agents and with the likes of Green, Dre, Zeitler, Marvin Jones, Sanu all being free agents next year. The cost of keeping Dalton would hurt him more business wise. He has even said you have to have pieces around Dalton to win and they won't have that as much anymore if they still keep him if he fails again.

You say take it to the bank. So I am willing to make a friendly avatar bet after this season if he fails again that they will release him or restructure his contract big time.

You really haven't watched Mike Brown over the years have you? AD will be AD and that will be enough.

It's not what I would do, but I don't own the team. Yeah I'll take the avi bet.

Let's look at it this way- which city would you trade teams with? Players, Coaches , Owner (s), cheerleaders, the whole organization.

Patriots, Packers, Hawks, Broncos for sure. Prolly the Steelers. After those guys you can find as many faults as you can with the Bengals.

How many teams have gone as long as the The bengals without winning a playoff game?

Colts, 49ers, Ravens, Giants, Saints just to name a

few more and I could keep

going.

I watched Mike Brown plenty. I have also paid attention to what he says about Dalton. Dalton has been ten times more successful in terms of wins compared to Palmer and he never talks about Dalton the same. That's why I Dont think he will pay the money Dalton will get next year if he fails again this year. He is a business man he will think someone else could possibly do the same.

Colts have a QB and no run game. 49ers are a mess. Ravens are old. Giants are super old. Saints? Maybe 5 years ago.

The Bengals are in a better place (overall) than any of those teams with the possible exception of the Colts but their owner is a public embarrassment.

Guess we're discounting playoff wins and Super Bowl rings? seems like a slam dunk to me.

If we are talking about as a whole and franchise history then no one would in their right mind would choose the Bengals over really anyone else. However if we are talking about the last years, I guarantee the majority of the fans bases in the NFL would have gladly traded the Bengals to have had a team that was winning and making playoffs. Now they would end up greatly disappointed once the playoffs started, however most franchises and fans would have had much more enjoyment watching a team win and play in the playoffs than lose a lot and not even make the playoffs.

Allow me to counterpoint all of your points you made

about the Colts having a QB and no run game...Bengals have a run game but no QB Advantage Colts

49ers are a mess...for what? 1 year? Bengals have been a mess for 25 years, advantage 49ers

Ravens are old...but they keep winning and have 2 SB victories since the Bengals have even won a playoff game...advantage Ravens

Giants are Super Old....again they still have numerous SB's and a couple since the Bengals last won a playoff game...advantage Giants

Saints? Yes Saints....advanatage Saints.

In conclusion, all of those teams mentioned have won the SB since the Bengals last won a playoff game....Loser on all accounts... Bengals
