Any newsworthy developments or insight from Trinity's spring practices?

They could do it the following week after the Henry Clay scrimmage on 8/14. It's not traditional but neither is scrimmaging another school the 1st week of full equipment.

Any newsworthy developments or insight from Trinity's spring practices?

 

Of the 3 QBs that were participating in spring practice(Jake Woosley plays baseball), Larry Harper seemed to have more zip on his throws & a better grasp of the offense as of now. The only other question mark for me was the Dline but they have plenty of capable bodies to fill 2 open spots in that 3-4 Defense on the Dline so to me now it's just about figuring out the QB of this team, should be another great season, I'm very optimistic!

The LB's and DB's looked real good and made it difficult for any throws downfield. Very tight coverage with small windows to throw to. It appeared coaches went by seniority for reps for the QB's -- Harper, Blackburn then Zaubi. All three took reps with first team at times although Harper got the majority with the first group. All three QB's looked comfortable running the offense. For a spring practice, with not everyone there, the Rocks looked good, especially the defense. Plenty of reasons for optimism in the fall!

Who are we missing right now? DJones, JWoosley and CCarricio? I know all three will be in the WR rotation...with Woosley most likely getting in the QB race as soon as baseball is over. Are we missing some underclassmen expected to be in the mix? Maybe a few more guys playing baseball or other spring sports?

 

WR position is deep with all three guys mentioned above along with Burns, Palombino, MHarper and a few new names from JV I'm sure we will hear about. Confident the staff will find the right guy to distribute the ball...much like Ryan Young last year.

 

O-Line should be loaded with 3 year starters. Looking forward to seeing this group in action. How you guys feeling about the running game after the spring?

I don't want to jinx the team, but my gut tells me they will be quite good. I hope my (expansive) gut is right.

There are some that are running track, like Alex Wilson and Alec Carvajal, that could contribute. Wilson played great as a Freshman all season and should give MHarper a run for playing time in the slot. I thought Wilson showed what he could do in the big games vs St X running for two TD's and catching several passes. Not sure if Carvajal will be playing WR or DB but has good hands and very good speed.

 

Not sure if any others are running track or playing LAX.

Someone mentioned the Green/White game. Even if they don't get pads until August could they still have a Green/White night with some 7v7 scrimmage and maybe add in some line play. Do this the last weekend in July? The night is to introduce the players to the families/fans and get ready to kick off the season and this would be one way to do it maybe.

Thank you, Bobcat. I remember the names from last year. Had a chance to see a few Frosh games. Again, looking forward to watching the staff sort through the QB competition. I really feel like the guys did a great job last year eventually getting RYoung inserted into the starting spot. We've said it over and over again...but what an amazing kid!

 

I was told to keep an eye on the Blackburn kid. No matter what, best of luck to all the QB's looking to be the next guy up for the Rocks. I'm sure all 4 guys will prepare like his number might get called on any Friday night.

The Bruins will be tough on the road to wrap up the regular season! More than anything, I really like the open date before the playoffs compared to playing Moeller at the end of the season the past several years. Don't get me wrong, playing against Moeller was a blast but we were beat up the past few seasons going into week 10 and 11. Overall, I really do like what Coach Saxton did with the schedule this year. Should be a lot of fun.

Yeah, but even beat up we almost had them last year. A 17-14 loss and that's after Trinity missed about 3 field goals if I remember that night correctly. The venue was pretty fun also.
