Greenup Co basketball - Merle Kidwell joins as Asst Coach

Featured Replies

The way I look at it, Kidwell, teaching at Russell and coaching at Greenup would be difficult to do, not to mention they are in the same district. I know he has thick skin, but I know for fact that coaching at one high school and teaching at another wares on a person. I'm just thinking about all the crap that that he will have to deal with during the school day.

Merle knows the game and can coach and as far as being at Russell and coaching at Greenup then that's Russell's problem. They're the ones who chose to go a different direction. You cant tell a teacher that when they leave school everyday they cant go work at Wal Mart in the evening. As far as thick skin goes you cant coach for as long as Merle has and not have thick skin. Good for you Merle

Yes, but Wal Mart isn't in your district and you don't have them on the schedule two times a year...

Somehow I don't think it will bother him. Russell made their choice, and he made his.

Really not that big a deal for Merle

I would say the move from his hometown to Russell was a much bigger deal than this move!!

Where is he from?

Some of us are older and remember the teams Greenup had under Ward. I've followed Greenup maybe the last 10 years because I had a nephew playing and knew a few kids that played. Ward was a good tournament coach but he also had some really good teams IMO. Greenup has had some decent players but overall I've just not seen the talent. Even with transfers coming in that never panned out Greenup is just not the Greenup of old. Unless a coach is just awful or the school wants to go in an entire different direction I say keep him. Maybe the coach is doing the best he can with what he has.

Have you seen Greenup play the last 2 years. ? No talent really. I`m not saying a top 10 team in the state , but 13 and 12 win season`s . Should have been much better .

Not that my opinion matters to the folks in GC, as I have to worry about my Tomcats and their new coach...but to me it's not always about talent, cultivating talent is what separates good coaches from top tier coaches. In my opinion that is what went on with Ward when he was the coach there and what has not happened since. Hey, just one guys opinion who really has no vested interest, if you guys think Kidwell is the missing key to making this happen more power to you.

I have no clue what Greenup Co real problems are but I do know the addition of Coach Kidwell to the staff with be beneficial. I have read on this site that some thought GC was unprepared at times and that won't happen if he in charge of scouting.

Your right , all the coaching turnover in the past could have hurt some. I`m not saying Kidwell will come in and save the world, but I think it`s proven Tackett needs a hole lot of help. Kidwell is some help, and that's better than Tackett alone. It`s just a little change , better than no change at all. That's what Greenup fans are kind of happy about.. But Tackett still needs to go.
