Just looked at the results from the Nashville Rivals Combine and while the numbers are a little different when compared to the Best of the Midwest, Quintin Baker again ran the fastest 40 of the combine. This was outdoors in low 50 degree temps, slight rain, and a 10-15 mph crosswind. I know the conditions because I was there.

I don't care what number you put in for his 40, his number is much lower then the vast majority of other people's number.

Numbers are irrelevant. I was as fast as I needed to be. If I had a foot race with my two kids at the same age I probably would have finished second. Besides I wasn't gonna chase your behind anyway. If I couldn't make contact in the first few yards I figure it would have been the other safety's job. And yes I did play in the secondary. I had one opposing coach say "What do you weigh son?" I said "190." He said "If you were here you would be a lineman" My response "Glad I am not there" How is that for describing the awesomeness of barely breaking 5.

I love 40 times and all, but personally is doesn't show what you can do on the football field. It shows how athletic and fast you are but who runs in a straight line for fourth yards on the field? I know you can break one away and be off and running, but I'm making a point that you rarely run 40 yards in a straight line on the field.

I've watched and played against him. Yes he is fast and quick. Not taking anything away from him, he's a great athlete. But his 40 time shows his athleticism, not his football "savy". He doesn't run a straight line 40 THAT often.

There have been studies done recently looking at the NFL combine and which events there actually seem to correlate with success in the NFL. I hate to say it but the 40 was one of the only ones that actually seemed to have any relevance, at least for guys in skill positions, especially running backs. These studies are why the NFL is looking to change the events. 40 times are great for skill positions but for lineman they make no sense.

I hope to watch this kid play this year.

I could understand that. I think speed is important, I just don't know about 40 yards.
