cksf Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I wish Boyle the best of luck but if they have the bald ref that looks like he's going to pass out while he's laboring up and down the court I think the odds are against them. Boyle plays physical and he doesn't seem to like any contact between players so that plays to Lincoln ' s favor. Or............maybe he just blows the whistle a lot to get a break, not sure which one it is.

Lincoln was clearly the better team, add in Mercer's putrid free throw shooting and the officials didn't affect the outcome in any way, but I did think the officiating was really bad in this game.

Rez Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 This was my first time seeing Mercer, and I came away very impressed with Faulkner. He was clearly their best player in this game. Dow was a physical matchup problem for Lincoln, but they didn't do a very good job of using him. Hager didn't have any impact on the game. I've heard good things about him, but he wasn't able to show them in this one. For only scoring 2 free throws late in the game, Timmy Taylor was dominant. He is a rare high school player who can be the most impactful player on the court without scoring.

Hater gets a ton of points in the paint and that's no secret. Everytime he got in the lane the Lincoln defense did a great job of bottling him up and making sure he never got comfortable. Timmy Taylor is a lot of fun to watch.

Lincoln is about as sound a team as I have seen in a long time at both ends of the floor. On offense they move the ball so well, and do a great job of getting open looks. Timmy is definitely the catalyst, but they all pass well and get to the right spots.
Wireman Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Where Lincoln County really gets you is when their role players start knocking down shots. They are almost unbeatable when a 3rd or even 4th player gets going.

Agreed. No argument from me on who was the better team. Just my thoughts on the next game.
PurplePride92 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Is Timmy Taylor still planning to go to LMU? Yes. They are having a spectacular year this season.

Obviously Conway and Taylor make them go, but Pittman, Conley, Hoover, Young, even Wilkes can all hit shots inside and outside. You have to guard everyone at all times.

If Faukner works at it and gets a couple more inches, he's a can't miss (future) D1 basketball player. Kid's upside is very, very high. Long, can handle pretty well, can shoot and can slash. Finished as the team's second leading scorer and third leading rebounder. Taylor can impact a game without scoring a point, particularly when the guys around him are hitting shots. GREAT respect for the way he plays. Hager is very good. He led the team in scoring, assists and was second in rebounding. Did you watch the Southwest game? As well as he played in that game, he was that off against Lincoln. He couldn't drop it in the ocean Monday night, and it was pretty obvious that the hand injury/wrap on his right hand was affecting both his handle and shot. Coach Jackson's comment was that their defensive focus was to keep Hager out of the lane. They did a great job at that, as is expected from a Jackson coached team. Doing that makes Mercer a different team.
