You are absolutely correct as I didn't think anyone could beat Mason boys in the 10th, for that I eat crow. With that said, I still stay by my prediction that no one beats Elizabethtown in the Sweet 16 this week.

 

Just messing with you Tiger lol I think Elizabethtown is the obvious favorite and will be tough for anyone to beat but the top half of the bracket is LOADED and wouldn't be totally shocked if they lost

They are also #9 in the ESPN Rankings. I don't see E-Town losing this Tourney. I know that E-Town has a target on their backs, but I think what people fail to realize is that everyone else has a target on their backs in E-Town's eyes! Those girls have a very sour taste in their mouth's from last years Championship Game loss and from the time that final buzzer went off last year, every one of those girls were determined to come back and murder everyone in the upcoming season. If you saw these girls in their District and Region Tourney's, you could absolutely tell what was on their minds. They didn't even cut down the nets when they won the District Title, and when they won Region there was no real celebration, jumping up and down, etc. They all simply walked over to the Nelson County players and shook their hands as if it were just another game! It has been all business for these young ladies all season long with one goal in mind. It is going to be fun to see who challenges them in State and how they respond!

Anyone seen the Morris kid from Bell play? I assume her and Boley from E-town are the top two players in the tourney. Can she carry Bell through the top bracket?

Boley leads the scoring for E-Town most of the time, but besides her, there are 3 other Division 1 signees and one heavily recruited PG who comes off of the bench for them. It is normal for them to have atleast 4 players in double figures every night. E-Town has too many weapons!!

IF...and its a big IF any team could beat Etown, it might just be Mercer. They are comfortable lauching 3's quickly and will shoot a ton of them. If they get hot and Etown has any tightness with expectations or first game nerves, then we could have a upset. Ah who am i kidding.......

JMO and I don't want to jinx HC, but I think they win the first game without too many worries. I think they are a team that has a chance to compete with Etown too. Don't get all excited Etown folks...you are clearly the favorite and I love your team! I just think the HC match up could be interesting. HC is very big and hard to score against and they do not turn the ball over. They have enough outside shooting to keep you honest. I think it will be a low scoring game. The issue I see for HC is will they be able to score on Etown...because they are huge too! And obviously very athletic! I just think it may be one of the most interesting match ups of the tournament. As an E-Town Fan, HC is really the only team that I am concerned with. I watched them play earlier in the year at the Lexington Tourney and thought that they were a really good team. The day after, they lost to East Carter by 11 and E-Town turned around and beat EC by 17. I'll admit, I was a little surprised by that. I don't know what EC did to beat HC, or even if HC just had a bad game, but I'm sure that HC is even better now. I agree RCC9, both teams match up pretty well with the advantage going to E-Town because of their athleticism. I believe E-Town's guard play will be intimidating to HC guard's and on top of that Erin Boley cannot be stopped!

The East Carter game for HC Turner didn't play a minute in the game and Murphy played a lot of his bench players which typically don't play as many minutes as they did that game not taking anything away from those players but when you've got 7-8 players you know you can play and won't skip a beat on Eather end of the floor and one of those is not playing then you add some more to the mix who don't have a lot of varsity experience your gonna take a hit. Turner was a excuse my language if I offend anyone but an idiot away from being the player of the year. She showed how good she is in the 9th region tournament scoring 22 points in the biggest game of the year. So if you look at it that way with her in you can usually count on at least 12-15 points maybe more from her individually which changes the outcome of the East Carter game. That being said I to have seen E-town play and they are VERY good but as for the guards intimidating the HC guards I laugh at that argument Mclendon might be one of if not the best ball handlers in the state haven't seen her crack under pressure yet or for lack of better terms be intimidated.

In the East Carter game, HC's leading scorer Turner was hurt and didn't play (as was stated by another writer earlier) ... AND pg McClendon was playing (less than half speed) on an injured ankle ... a sub with nice ball-handling skills was out with a broken hand or thumb or something ... AND three of HC's bigs were playing with or getting over upper respiratory crud, which meant they were struggling to breathe and spent a lot of time on the bench.

 

Still, Holy Cross had a double digit lead at one point ... and then it all fell apart when McClendon and the bigs just wore out and East Carter's Mayo and Hall put on a shooting clinic (six 3-pointers and 18-20 from the line).

 

But East Carter was also missing a key player (Brainard?), so the game was probably not representative of either team's typical play.

I would say Mercer leads the tourney field in 3 point attempts. The question is, can they hit a high enough percentage against the 1-3-1 zone they will have to face. Mercer hasn't shot them well this past month, maybe they are due.

Well I will say this. I "think" HHS was close to setting a record for 3's on the year. I didn't look that up myself, so maybe I'm way off. Regardless, HHS shot and made a ton of 3's this year. But in both games against HC, we did not shoot well against them. They do a great job of matching up with shooters out of their zone and they are long. So typical shots that are open looks, aren't as open. Now you can get some open looks against them, but it's not like they are going to see open looks like they do against typical teams. I'm not predicting any outcome at all, just telling you they do a great job defending the three also.
