Just how bad is the 9th?

Featured Replies

^Yep, I'm sure those two incidents happened exactly like you claim they did. :lol2:

If you want them to be held accountable so badly, why don't you go through the necessary training and show all those incompetent officials how it's supposed to be done?

That's a fact. They happened JUST EXACTLY that way. You can believe what you want to believe.

And read some of the other posts Sparky...I don't want to officiate. These guys do. And they're getting paid. Competence should be a given.

Gotcha. Rather than do something to change it, you'd rather just sit around and complain.

Comprehension not a strong suit for you is it?

I am primarily talking about protecting the shooter. Big kids get a tougher whistle than smaller ones do. And you hear officials say all the time we are going to call "hand checks" and "physical play in the post"... Its a foul one time down the floor and not the next. Consistency is a huge problem.

EXACTLY what I've been getting at in my posts on the East Carter/Ashland game, and again this is ONE game that was POORLY officiated by all 3 officials (by the way, have been to 4 boys games now and the officials from the 9th were EXCELLENT in all 4 games, VERY consistent on both ends) ok, East Carter, 2 on 1 fast break, kid from Ashland comes from behind and makes a volleyball spike block, force of the block drove East player to the floor, no foul and it SHOULDN'T have been because it was a GREAT play!!! 1 poss later, same official, Miss Basketball candidate for Ashland goes to the basket, 6'1 kid from East goes from behind for a block, misses and misses the player by probably about a foot, sends her to the line!! Same type of game ALL night!!

Are these officials really the best the 9th has to send to a regional tournament??!! ALL the games have been just TERRIBLE and what they did to East Carter last night capped it off!!! Ashland, one of the most physical half court man teams around, has ONE foul the whole first half and 5 TOTAL for the game!! Ashland is good but not PERFECT!! And no, East was NOT shooting a bunch of 3's, shot 12 or 13 for the game I believe, they were attacking the basket and shot THREE foul shots for the game with bodies all over them!! But East got called for HOOKING on a drive, POSTING too physical, 2 flops for charges!! The kids that played deserve better than this!!

So were they terrible or excellent? Seems you can't make up your mind. Or maybe you are a little too close to one of the programs in this particular game.

I get tired of the "if you don't like it, take a test and show us how it's done" commentary. I don't want to take a test. I don't want to oficiate. The guys wearing the stripes DO want to officiate. And the fact remains, a lot of them aren't very good. These officials get paid, and when you get paid it isn't unreasonable to expect competency. Overweight, out of shape officials lead to being out of position and a lot of missed calls. Clyde is bullish on the rule book, but correct me if I'm wrong, says nothing about the different interpretations of what is/isn't a foul from region to region. When you complain about it the response from different assigning secretaries takes some form like "our numbers are down, and this is the best we've got". And sometimes the "best" isn't very good.

I've read all your posts, and agree with a few things you have said, others, not so much. I find this statement very telling. Most average basketball fans wouldn't refer to an official's assigning secretaries, or even know that was who to complain to…..so you know the ropes.

I find that interesting.

Officials should be in shape, know the rules and be proficient, agree.

Beauty is often in the eye of the beholder….and vice versa

Yes, but they are all from the 9th. All call the same type of game. Officials are assigned both boys and girls during the season.

oness doing the boys are MUCH BETTER!!!! NOT CLOSE, don't care if they came from the same region or not!!

Really, thought it might help me know something about officiating a game, my mistake!!

nope, not that simple, there will be no "keeping quiet" but you're right, I've NEVER seen an official get mad at a coach/player and let it effect their game, I've never seen officials "protect" OR "assume" calls for a Mr./Miss basketball candidate, they're all PERFECT as you say and that NEVER happens, I'm sure you've never seen it either!! LOL!!!!!!!

I know they aren't perfect, which is why you will never see me get on an anonymous site and complain about officiating. You obviously do not have any idea what I am trying to tell you. The point is this: I know officials aren't perfect, you should know that too. But that is not their main job and they do it for love of the kids and the game. You think it is so terrible yet refuse to accept when I tell you that if you don't like the way the game is officiated then you need to go back to work and show these guys how it is done.

He shouldn't have to "go back to work to show them how it's done" It's not unreasonable to expect a level of competency when paying someone for a service. Add on to that the fact that there is NO accountability to speak of and it's a recipe for disaster. ANd don't give me the "ratings" junk. Means nothing in most regions. It's a good ole boy network in most regions where the same ones get the post season work regardless of performance.

Now that I will agree with.

I think we beat this horse a few times already, but you insist on laying the whip to it...so here goes:

Purely your opinion on whether or not an official is competent. You have yet to post anything on any of these threads that demonstrated your position on incompetence factually, nor have you posted anything, other than your words to explain why you are in a position to determine why there is no accountability....just words blowing in the wind.

118 posts in and you have not yet demonstrated your own PERSONAL COMPETENCY as it relates to officiating. Just vague comments about the entire process.
