March 6, 201511 yr The one reason stupidity makes the news more for the republicans is the overwhelming slant towards liberalism in the media and entertainment industries, plain and simple. For the most part I don't think it's intentional, they just can't help themselves and have no real desire for balance. As I mentioned, "some" I didn't say all (sad I have to point that out), act like they are high and mighty. the example I gave, with Mark Foley is a great example, with his voting record he was anti gay, but then it surfaced that he among other things sent sexual images to current and former teenage male pages. Thankfully the republican leadership asked him to step down. Some others also pretend to take the moral high road, but when they do, and something leaks out to show they are not as moral as they claim, well then the media and others will be all over it. I can't recall the exact quote, but as Pope Francis said "God accepts sinners more so that people who act saintly but are not." (Again not an exact quote). When people, no matter who they are, are acting like a saint or whatever, they best have their house in order, as if not, they will get judged more harshly than others who don't act that way. But back to the thread topic. As I asked previously in this thread, why do politicians say these stupid things? Do they not think before they speak?

March 6, 201511 yr So the VP isn't a person of consequence? Joe Biden is like your drunk uncle at the party who CONTINUALLY says totally stupid and insensitive things but nobody takes him seriously so he gets a pass. Did you seem him with his hands all over that lady at the news conference last week? Totally creepy. If a Republican did that, look out. Biden does it and he is fodder for a couple of jokes on late night TV but life goes on. It is amazing that a total clown like Biden is our VP. And if Hillary really does implode, he may actually be a serious candidate for president. We truly live in a bizarre world where Joe Biden can ascend so high politically.
March 6, 201511 yr Lets take it a step further. Trent Lott said something complementary about a Senator that at one time supported segregation, his political career was basically trashed. The media all but demanded his head on a spike. Robert Byrd was himself a member of the Ku Klux Klan and yet until his death was held in very high regard by the left and the media loved him. By all accounts, Byrd backtracked from his early-life involvement and changed his ways. Strom Thurmond and Trent Lott never did. There's the difference.
March 6, 201511 yr Here's the way the dialogue goes in a political thread these days. "So-and-so did something stupid/illegal/immoral". Then, depending on whether the so-and-so has a "D" or an "R" after their name, "The nasty liberal media either made a huge deal out of it or swept it under the rug." "It wasn't as bad as what the other guy did." "If our guy had done it, you would have hit the ceiling." Absolutely no argument with that at all and not a one of us are innocent.

You said "the one reason", I pointed out what the real "one reason" was. The "some" or "all" is a non factor. It has nothing to do with the hypocrisy.
March 6, 201511 yr By all accounts, Byrd backtracked from his early-life involvement and changed his ways. Strom Thurmond and Trent Lott never did. There's the difference. Uh huh.
March 6, 201511 yr By all accounts, Byrd backtracked from his early-life involvement and changed his ways. Strom Thurmond and Trent Lott never did. There's the difference. Trent Lott encouraged segregation late in his career? I would say to you that Lott changed his ways as well.
March 6, 201511 yr If you lean to their political slant they changed their ways. The other side did not. Got it.

March 6, 201511 yr I don't think any of them changed their views, they just learned to hide them better for the most part.
March 6, 201511 yr He did. OK i just did a quick Google and found nothing to back this up. Can you provide evidence? It did say he took an active role in keeping his fraternity segregated while in college but that would probably be in the same time frame Byrd was wearing a robe. What is the statute of limitations for an R to change his ways?
March 6, 201511 yr Author He didn't resign his leadership role in 2002 - after years in the Senate - for nothing.
March 6, 201511 yr He didn't resign his leadership role in 2002 - after years in the Senate - for nothing. And that had noting to do with pressure from the media? That was all over the uproar over what he said about Thurman. How many cross burnings did Byrd participate in? Again, I've looked but can find nothing to back up your claim, surely you wouldn't have made a baseless claim would you?
