10am is early, why not just start at noon?

Are they planning on playing the next round on Sunday?

I'm guessing the girls semifinals or final are on Saturday night and they don't want conflicting times.

If you go to first two games you have to leave the gym and pay again to get in to see last two games.

I just don't understand starting the games at 10. It gives Shelby a huge advantage over Grant. Its close to an hour and a half drive for Grant and probably only around 20 minutes for Shelby. Love playing the Region at Henry every year just for the atmosphere that the gym provides. But I have to say the Grant County faithful will not be very happy about this.

I agree. This does not help Grant County. However I LOVE having the Regional Tournament at Henry County. The ATMOSPHERE on Semi-final night is AWESOME!

That is not true. The following letter was sent out today:

2015 8TH Region Boys Basketball Inclimate Weather Plan

In discussion with the National Weather Service, The Superintendent, Principal, and transportation director of Henry County Schools, we have decided to proceed with the following plan for the 8th region boys’ tournament due to the impending winter weather situation.

All games for Wednesday, March 4 and Thursday, March 5th will be cancelled and rescheduled at this time for Saturday, March 7th. The schedule will go as follows:

10:00 a.m. - Grant Co. vs. Shelby Co. 12:00 p.m. - Oldham Co. vs. Gallatin Co. 2:00 p.m. - Owen Co. vs. North Oldham 4:00 p.m. - Collins vs. Simon Kenton

We do not believe it to be prudent to do a split session and clear the gym after the 12:00 game, however, we will be changing tickets after the 12:00 game so anyone who leaves will have to pay to re- enter for a later game.

As of right now, we will still plan on having the semi-finals on Monday, March 9th with the finals to follow on Tuesday, the 10th.

The commissioner has sent out a reminder that it is in the handbook that when rescheduling regional tournaments, it is the job of the tournament manager to try and avoid any conflicts between boys and girls region games involving the same school. He has said to “avoid the same school playing boys and girls at or near the same time at different sites if it would force fans and administrators to make a choice between the games. This may mean playing the games in a region out of bracket order, and if so, then so be it to avoid that conflict.” With that being said, depending on what happens with the girls region, it may be a possibility that we would have to flip some of the games as far as order goes to accommodate.

If the situation persists into Saturday, we will make contact with coaches and AD’s with a schedule change. Thank you for your patience with this situation.

Thank you,

Cool I was misinformed.

No problem. Just didn't want to keep anyone from making the trip.

My guess is Grant is happy to be playing and could care less about the start time.

Coach Grammar will have those boys ready to play.

The result of the Grant-Shelby game is going to have 0 to do with tip start.

Go to bed Friday at 8pm, get up early...they can adjust their schedules.

This is very good. I'm glad the KHSAA is thinking about things like avoid conflicts with boys and girls games. We often think about the fans and parents but the boys teams wants to watch the girls team play and vice versa. Adjusting the schedules a bit to make that happen is absolutely the right thing to do!

Not to be a Debbie Downer but I think the schedules for boys and girls are up in the air; with 6-12+ inches of snow across the 8th Region, it is going to be tough for the girls to resume tomorrow. Owen County has Level 3 snow emergency. I'm sure the AD's are presently scrambling. Girls tourney starts next Wednesday; boys not until the week after so my guess is they will make the girls a priority.

I hope Henry County has plenty of bulldozers and dump trucks because we are measuring snow in feet not inches in Shelby County!
