Bubba Watson challenges Billy Hamilton to a race

Featured Replies

Is Bubba going to be driving a golf cart?

Wouldn't matter.

In future news, Billy Hamilton just beat Bubba Watson in a race.

Maybe this another one of those tortoise vs. hare promotions. Is Mercedes a sponsor of either of these guys?

You know, crunching some math, I don't think it's that far off for Bubba to beat him. The race was for Bubba to leave second base, while Hamilton starts at home. Winner is the first one to cross home plate.

So, if Billy runs an average of 3.5 seconds from base to base, it'd take him 14 seconds to make it around. That's 360 feet in 14 seconds, or 25.71 feet per second. Multiply that by 60, gets you 1,542.86 feet per minute. And multiplying that by 60, gets you 92,571.43 feet per hour. Dividing that by 5,280 gets you 17.53 mph.

Watson, by running half that distance, only has to run at half that speed to tie Hamilton...which works out to 8.77 mph. According to Ask.com, the average person jogs at 8.3 mph...which, if correct, means IMO, it's totally doable.

I had a similar thing to myself. I was an Engineer and he worked in the store room. He always bragged how fast he was and he could jump from the ground to the top of the filing cabinet. He proceeded to tell me that he was twice as fast as me. He told me he would challenge me to a 100 yard race and give me a 50 yard head start. The next day I ran a 50 and my boss timed me. We went back to the Office and crunched the numbers and he would have to run world class speed to beat me. We ran the race and it was no long that he knew he bit off more than he could chew and he quickly gave up. We cleaned up on the bet. For Hamilton to win, he could start at home and run all the way around the bases and back to second and make Bubba run all bases once. Bubba like myself would have given out running a longer distance!

Bubba makes better contact

Bubba throws harder than Chapman.

and plays a flashier 2nd base than Phillips.
