Suit: LA Fitness Won't Let Muslim Pray at Gym

Featured Replies

If he is chanting Ali Akbar Mohammed Jihad...Dirka Dirka....then I can understand but standing alone in a corner of a locker room when its empty seems harmless.

I agree which is why I said it could get interesting as I don't know that the definition as to what would be reasonable has ever been established.

Coworker of mine goes to that gym every Monday-thursday after work. She says theres more to this story, but hush is the word around the gym.

Does he technically deserve money? Maybe not. However he'll most likely get it if he's looking for it.

You simply can't discriminate against someone for their religious beliefs.

And if they don't let anyone pray?

Do you pray in your car before entering a restaurant that may be of a different religious background to have dinner? This is simply wrong on LAF's behalf. JMO

I would like to know more detail before offering up an opinion.

I think it is a slippery slope.

Why can't he pray in his car before he comes in and once again after he leaves? What if groups start praying together at the gym?

I was a member of LA for a year, they run a tight ship aimed towards not offending any other gym members. I have mixed feelings on this one but I see LA's point.

Leave the guy alone, you should be able to pray anywhere you want.

They need to worry more about keeping their soap dispensers full and paper Towles stocked.

Agreed! If he was just sitting/kneeling there and not bothering anyone, then it's no ones business! If I for some reason decided to feel the need to pray, anywhere, I am doing it, including at the gym, and I won't be of bother to anyone either. Sometimes people have a good reason to complain and are looking out for others, but then there are times that people just look to complain about others, for no other reason than to cause trouble.

And if that is the case, it will come out in court. If not, then he will win, or LAF will settle out of court.

And if they don't let anyone pray?

Not sure how they knew he was praying. He was standing in the corner in silence.

My guess would be settle out of court.

You said they discriminated against him for his religious beliefs. The point of my question was...if they don't let anyone pray there then how are they discriminating against him?

That's a fair question.

However, if he was simply standing in a corner in silence, how can they ban that?

Shoot, after I work out I have to sit in silence for a while. They would not be able to tell if I'm praying or dying. Sometimes I'm doing both. Guess I better not visit LA Fitness.

That's a fair question.

Also a fair question. Me thinks there has to be more to this.
