Recommended Posts

Taking nothing away from Augusta, but I did not see this game going this way. Congrats to the Lady Bears on a great season and to the Lady Panthers on a great win. Looking forward to hearing more about this game as well the box scores.

Bracken trails entire fourth quarter an d Bracken does not score the entire fourth until Cummins hits two FT with about 45 seconds left. Augusta turns ball over and Coach Kelsch call timeout and Bracken runs a perfect play and Bailey hits a three from the corner. Augusta geta a fast break with Jerica Kelsch going straight to the basket and she tried to pass it and ball was knocked out of bounds. Kelsch then gets a godd look in the lane and it hits the back of the rim and comes off. In OT, Augusta makes one FT to tie it and then foul Cummins in the back court. Cummins makes first and misses second with 8 seconds. Kelsch drives length of the floor and lays ball in with about 1.5 seconds and clock runs out. Augusta should have won in regulation but couldnotmake a FT. Went 7-18 for the game.

Ol' papa is not shy about his ambivalence for girls' basketball, but this game may make a believer out of me yet.

Pace of the game definitely favored Augusta. Very deliberate for much of the game; 4-4 after 1; 15-13 at half. Lady Panthers could have iced it at the line in OT; as it was, Bailey Cummins hit a clutch 3 that tied it at 32 with a few seconds to play. Kelsch took it to the rack but the shot wouldn't drop, setting up the overtime. Along with nearly everybody else, I thought that the game was over.

OT was back and forth. Lady Bears took at 1-point lead with 8 or 10 seconds to go, Kelsch took it pretty much the length of the floor, srove to the basket and made the shot just before the buzzer.

Fantastic win for Augusta as they avenge a couple of regular-season defeats. On to the district final and the regional tournament!

The better team on this night won the ballgame. The pace of the game favored the Lady Panthers. Congrats to Coach Arnold and the Lady Panthers and good luck Thursday night and in the Region.

As for my Lady Bears. They have nothing to be ashamed of. They had a very good season with a 10th region all a championship and advanceing to the all a state quarterfinals. Hate to see the season end for the seniors Cassidy Collins Kara Jones and Makenzie Jefferson.

As they say on to next season and Bracken will be returning a lot of experience that we didn't have at the beginning of this season. Cummins will return for her senior season as will starter Kinley Ruf. Korbin Florer, Maddie Kalb, Macy Jefferson, and Kennedy Carl will all be back as they all were big contributers this season so the cupboard is definitely not bare. :thumb:

I've never quite agreed with the statement that the regular season is just practice, and the only thing that counts is the post-season.

I think that this game spells that out quite clearly. There are no guarantees that you are going to play your best game/games in the post-season, and there are a lot of accomplishments during the regular season to be proud of.

For Bracken County they will always fondly remember their "A" run, and having an 18-11 season. Losing to Augusta in the district tournament shouldn't nullify all of that. Unfortunately, in this day and age, failures sometimes become what survive the test of time rather than your accomplishments.

On the other hand, the win over Bracken County will be long remembered in A-town and will supercede all memories of the regular season.

Both are fine programs who have reasons to celebrate their accomplishments this season for different reasons. Congrats to both!
