The Cincinnati Bengals are ready to deviate from some recent trends in order to...

take the next step to becoming a championship contender.

"I’m blessed that I have the coaching staff back but we all know there’s a new direction," Lewis said Thursday as he met with the Cincinnati media in a hallway of the NFL scouting combine. "We’ve got to have new direction to us. We can’t brush it off saying if we did this, if we did this. We’ve got to get better. We’ve got to get better in every area and it starts at the top. It’s my responsibility.

"We’re changing a lot. You know I’m not going to tell you what we’re changing," he said with characteristic mystery. "We always change scheme. You always change scheme. You change scheme. You change how you do it. You change how you do things. You change things and you get better at things. We have to get better. It’s not one thing of we've got to do this. Oh no, we’ve got to do everything better."

I don't think this article contains much but I did laugh out loud when I read the headline.

Meh

Makes me wonder how many people show up for Marvins coaching clinic this year. :D

Win a playoff game then you will get some clicks.

What a complete bunch of nothing. We need to get better...thanks Marvin, no kidding. Was he drunk when he said all this? I am just reading it, did not see him saying it but it sounds like some drunk rambling.

Bottom line. This is easy, stop the run, get to the passer and AD improves. Then we take the next step. Nothing short of that will get us there. We basically will have the same players. I don't expect a big impact from any free agents they will sign nor are draft picks usually that impactful, and if they are it is midway in the season. Getting Eifert, Burfict and Jones back plus if Geno can play at the 2012/early 2013 level should help, but they need more than that.

Finally, Zimmer won't be coming back. IMO the best coordinator on either side of the ball in the history of the Bengals. I lay last year's playoff loss on the defense. Guenther may turn out to be decent, but he is no Zimmer.

On the defense in the playoff loss? They would have needed the 2000 record setting Baltimore Ravens defense to win that game with hurt the Bengals offense was going into that game. The offense had the one touchdown drive and that's about it. Defense didn't play great but honestly wouldn't have mattered how the defense played since the offense wouldn't have been able to make a play when needed. It was an all the way around complete fail in this years loss.

I will say that I will believe it when I see it. However usually Marvin just talks about how we just have to stay the coarse and just fix things. There was only one other year when he talked about change in the off season. And that was after the 2010 season and that change led to four straight playoff appearances. So hopefully there is a positive outcome to whatever change he is talking about now like last time.
