Where are the regional venues for the tournaments? Could be a factor in who wins some of the regions that aren't played in the bigger college arenas or places like the facilities in Pikeville and Corbin.

 

The 14th will be played at Powell County High School. But Knott County Central would win our region if it was played on the moon this year.

Mason in the 10th and Lincoln in the 12th look like the only real contenders hosting a regional tournament.

Rowan county in the 16th also. Regionals are played at Morehead State, which is in Rowan's backyard.

The second region is at Union County. I personally cannot remember it ever being anywhere except Hoptown and Madisonville. Back and forth for years between those two schools. Both places located wherever you are coming from, it is a 4 lane highway to those gyms. (maybe the last mile is 2 lane)

 

This year it goes to Union County which you cannot get to within 20 miles on a 4 lane highway. Two lane road and most of the teams will have to travel the one with the most turns.

 

I guess it is ok to spread the games around, but Union County may have been the worst one to have to travel to. So we will see how it goes. Or in other words I will listen on the radio or attend the first region at Murray State. I can get there in almost the same amount of time.

Last time the second region wasn't at Hopkinsville or Madisonville was 1968 when Henderson City hosted it. There was a stretch between 1959-1968 where it rotated around the region (listed below). I'm guessing the change in the 1960s was due to so many consolidations and new schools/gyms opening in the region. Prior to 1959 is basically rotated between Hopkinsville and Madisonville, too. So this year is a change.
