Has Georgia played its way out of the tournament?

Featured Replies

I would have to think so with consecutive home losses to Auburn and South Carolina. I would think only a win against Kentucky would get them back in discussion. Makes that road game against Georgia even tougher with the Bulldogs fighting for any chance they may have to make the dance IMO.

If not they sure are on their way. May come down to have to beat the Cats to get in.

The real question...how does Mark Fox still have a job?

Probably have to hit 20 wins.

SEC was projected to get 6 teams in the tournament. It's probably 5 now after Georgia has imploded, and on their home court at that. UK, Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, and Ole Miss should be there.

Yep. I would think both he and Anthony Grant will be showing up on the unemployment line at season's end. Both long overdue IMO.

I don't think LSU or A&M are in a good spot. A&M can probably win enough to get in, but LSU has very little chance, IMHO, of putting themselves in a good spot.

Georgia still in much better shape than both, in my opinion.

I know Lunardi had them with 6 the other day, but barring something weird at the SEC Tourney, I think there is a MUCH better chance the SEC only gets 4. Truly only UK and Arkansas are locks at this point.

^LSU's schedule the rest of the way is pretty much cake. A terrible Florida team at home, a bad Tennessee team at home, a bad Auburn team on the road, a decent Ole Miss team in Baton Rogue, and then @ Arkansas to end the season. Should go 4-1 in that stretch. That'll lock it up.

If they go 4-1, and I don't think they will, they'll RPI will be about 43. That would be okay, but not a lock. If they beat Ole Miss they'll have 5 Top 50 wins, not great, and their SOS is going to be in the 80's.

They have to take 68 teams, so they have a shot, but anything short of 4-1 and they are likely outside looking in. Their resume just isn't very good.

Their loss last night hurt them bad. I wouldn't say that they are absolutely out yet but will say that they are on their way out.

....

Georgia's one glaring resume' deficiency is the lack of quality win. Their best wins are at home vs Ole Miss and at A&M. The latter one is particularly interesting because they could vary likely fall out of the RPI Top 50. If they do, that will leave Georgia with only 1 win vs the Top 50. That would be no bueno.

As a comparison, both Xavier and UC have 5 Top 50 wins...and both are likely to get to 6 (one is guaranteed at getting to 6) and could get to 7.

Of course, if LSU stays out of the Top 50, A&M will have ZERO Top 50 wins.

Heck, the more I look and the more I type, the more convinced I am that this league has little shot at getting more than 4 teams.

....

Out-of-conference projected SOS for SEC teams (sit down before reading):

1. UK #5

2. Florida #18

3. Missouri #31

4. Arkansas #62

5. Georgia #64

6. Tennessee #81

7. Auburn #85

8. South Carolina #94

9. Ole Miss #106

10. A&M #131

11. Alabama #143

12. LSU #182

13. Vandy #206

14. Miss. St. #294

Silliness.

...

The ACC's are even worse, collectively. Much worse. Where the SEC has 6 teams with non-conf SOS over #100, the ACC has 8. Including #320 VaTech (way to test yourself) and #330 Notre Dame (don't get me started again).

Of course, the ACC won 76% of their non-conf games (as they should with that nonsense), the SEC has only won 70% of theirs. If you took UK out of the SEC this year it would be comically bad -- and their RPI's would be hysterical.

....

I bet they get 5. :D
