February 13, 201511 yr The Rowdy Riptiles may be rowdy, but unless UK is in the house the rest of the fan base rarely show up in numbers, maybe a little over half capacity. I remember even after they won their first NCAA title, and were lucky enough that all the stars passed on the NBA and came back, that most if their games in their small gym were not sell outs.

I can't think of anything smaller in the SEC offhand. That's one of the things that makes it loud for the big games though, its a small facility and has a large student section in comparison to its overall size. I imagine the only time they will miss the 1000 seats is for one game a year.

The building is identical to the Sundome at USF. The interior layouts were identical prior to USF's renovation in 2011. They will be identical again after the O-Dome is redone. The Sundome ... The O'Connell Center Renovation ... Different angels, but what you don't see in the O-Dome's POV is the Arena Club, which you can see in the Sundome pic, on the left. That, and the Loge seating, on the right side of the court, will cost some seats, but increase revenue. There is only so much you can do with that building.

February 14, 201511 yr The sundome looks much nicer to me. Does to me, too. I know it's a structural issue, but I hope they find a way put restrooms up on the third level in the O-Dome. They didn't in the Sundome version. It blew big time when our seats were up there, especially for Mrs. S. I will say this to Wireman. Acoustical curtains were added when the renovated Sundome first opened, to accommodate concert events held there. The side effect was that it made the arena louder during basketball games.

When U.K. played this year the network talked about how tight it was for players on the out of bounds on the sidelines. More critically failed to mention the below standard short distance from the baseline of the goal supports. Seemed to me the Herald ran an article after Nerlen Noel's had his freakish leg injury from hitting the support noting the support was six inches shorter than the NCAA minimum. These high flyers need to be protected from inferior facilities. Careers can be wrecked

February 14, 201511 yr BTW, construction on the O-Dome is to start after the last home game in March and is to be completed in December. The Florida Volleyball team will be playing all of their 2015 home matches off campus, I assume at a local high school. The entire OOC schedule for men's and women's basketball, next fall, will be away or at neutral sites. I believe they are trying to schedule as many in-state schools as possible for the OOC portion of the schedule, too.
