Confused why people don't see him as a Mr. Basketball candidate. His team is a big favorite right now to win the 10th region. He's nearly averaging a double-double. He averages more points per game and more rebounds per game than Ray Spalding. Against the best three teams Mason County has played (Lex Cath, Lincoln Co & Holmes). He had games of 18 and 14, 13 and 13 and 35 and 11.

 

Now I don't think he will get on the ballot, but he definitely should be getting votes.

Great numbers don't always equate to being a Mr Basketball candidate. If that was the case, Brent Bach would have got more love last year.

 

If it was all about numbers, Drew McDonald (17 & 11) and Dwayne Sutton (24 & 7) would be two of the leading candidates for the award. And I'd argue both are more of a candidate than Dorian Henry.

Like Walter said it is not all about numbers. Bach is a great example of that. I'm not knocking Bach he had a great HS career but not Mr. basketball.

In the scrimmage vs NCC back in November Dorian out played McDonald but the Royals quit playing due to NCC wanting to play "dirty" in a scrimmage, no use in getting hurt in a scrimmage. But was definitely the better player in that game.

NCC playing dirty? Take off the royal blinders. I have watched that group for years and they are far from dirty. If anytging, they dont show enough emotion. Their head coach, Ron Dawn, won't stand for that garbage like some of these other coaches will.

 

And while the Newcath kids do tell me Henry was good and had a nice game that day, we are talking about a scrimmage. Newcath beat Holmes in a scrimmage over the summer, with Holmes at full strength, by close to 20 and it could have been much worse. Regular season game without Avery, Newcath only beats them by 6. One of the biggest reasons why I've given up on using summer ball/scrimmages to judge teams.

Pushing players down, throwing elbows, and hitting a guy in the one spot he doesn't want to be hit is playing dirty IMO. I was at the game and witnessed it.

I agree with what Walter is saying. Basketball has some physicality to it.

Rule 2

Ron Dawn is a class act, hard to see the dirty play. But back to the subject, Dorian is having an outstanding year and should be atleast considered a Mr. Basketball candidate. Mason County would not be where they are today without him. When he wants and needs to, he puts up huge numbers. Much more of a facilitator than people would know if you haven't watched him in person.

Never put much stock in summer ball, but the two scrimmages right before the season starts do give you a little idea of how a team is going to look. Not a great indication, but you atleast have some idea of what to expect from a team.
