Dorian Henry Garnering a Variety of Interest

Featured Replies

2015 Mason County F Dorian Henry is having tremendous senior year and has been the biggest part of the Royals 18-2 start. He’s averaging 21.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game and has thrust himself into the Race for Mr. Basketball. Dorian is a long and athletic forward that is really developing into a wing player. He’s much improved as a drive and has the strength to score through contact when finishing at the rim. He’s a very good rebounder on both ends and finished well whenever around the rim.

Morehead State, Georgetown College, Kentucky State and Shawnee State are the colleges currently showing interest in Dorian. Dorian has no offers at the moment and doesn’t have any visits set up either. He’ll likely pick up more interest though and I suspect he’ll make a commitment sometime after the season ends.

At this time Dorian is focused on improving his ball-handling and he also wants to improve his confidence in his jump shot. If he can improve in both of those areas he will have be truly ready to play as a strictly perimeter player at the next level. Another thing Dorian mentioned was that he just wants to keep getting better and help lead his team to the state tournament.

Dorian is happy with the way the season has gone so far. But he’s definitely not satisfied yet, he wants them to keep getting better and has some plans for their end goal. “We want to win our district and the region and go on to state.”

He could most certainly play there. Gotta tell you, Henry without Williams, Johnson and D Johnson would be interesting.

Just wasn't impressed with his ability. Mr Basketball is a stretch.

This is an award that would, in my mind be garnered to an individual that cannot be contained. He's been contained according to stat reporting by Mason County on Khsaa

Dorian has improved by leaps and bounds this year. Played in Shawn Johnson's shadow last season but has really come into his own.

I would love to see him get an invite to the KY All-Star tryouts (or whatever they call the team that plays in the KY-IN series).

The 10th has a nice group of big men this time around. No high-level D-1 candidates, but Henry, Wilson, Thompson and Sticklen are nice players; and I'm probably missing someone. Garrard for Paris, for example, plays the pivot but isn't a true big man.

I can tell you first hand that Bellarmine has interest. I mentioned him to the the Coaches and they were already aware and said they had interest.

Could you see Dorian eventually taking on the role of a Jake Thelen - high FG percentage and rebounding machine, or would he play more as a 3?

By no means am I saying he is a Mr. Basketball candidate,,but is there a player in Ky that cannot be contained, if so who might that be ?

Definitely a 3 at BU. Good fit IMO. I think his mid range game is improving and will continue to do so.

He will need it to keep getting better to play the 3 effectively at the D2/D1 level. Could probably play some at the 4 at a school like Georgetown, Shawnee, etc. Heck, Georgetown won a national NAIA championship two years ago with a 6'7" post (Vic Moses).

He does not have the range needed for a 3. He needs to bulk up to play the 4 at a high level.

Not sure when you saw him but he was a man among boys when I saw him against Holmes. Does a little bit of everything and is more versatile than he gets credit for as far as putting the ball on the floor and taking his man off the dribble.

Will need to develop a mid range game amd decent outside shot if he wants to play somewhere bigger than Morehead. Right now he's and undersized 4 but could develop in to a nice 3 if he develops a jumper.

Dorian Henry is a great and outstanding player. In my opinion, I don't think he has a chance to win Mr. Basketball, I think it'll go to Justice or Spalding. Either way, he's had a great year and I hope he keeps improving. Can't wait to see what he does the rest of the year and what he will do at the next level.

Confused why people don't see him as a Mr. Basketball candidate. His team is a big favorite right now to win the 10th region. He's nearly averaging a double-double. He averages more points per game and more rebounds per game than Ray Spalding. Against the best three teams Mason County has played (Lex Cath, Lincoln Co & Holmes). He had games of 18 and 14, 13 and 13 and 35 and 11.

Now I don't think he will get on the ballot, but he definitely should be getting votes.

Spaulding and Justice are two specific players that no one can contain. Arguably there are about 10 other players. Mr basketball will come down to these two.

Those two are "men amongst boys"

Having a good game or a bad game are the only obstacles they worry about.

I'm not up to date with Western Kentucky players like I should be.

It's the players around Henry that make him stand out.
