NKU is not still in their probationary period with the Atlantic Sun, which is why they are allowed to participate in the conference tournament.

All of this conversation is way premature. NKU has not secured a home game (I certainly hope they do and wish them nothing but the best).

 

A couple of years ago both the 10th region and the 9th region tourneys were held at NKU, if they were able to work that out, then I am sure they can figure out a way to work one more game in that week. Although the ASun might require NKU to play on 3/3, the dates for getting the regional tourney in have some flexibility built into them (at least as far as the KHSAA is concerned). Also it would be interesting to see the contract and how it was written and what the contingencies were spelled out if NKU has a conflict.

North Florida and FGC arent better than Murray State nor do they have the tradition of alot of schools in OVC. The OVC is the natural league for NKU and would do wonders on helping with attendance if they could get in the league.

 

The OVC would be a better conference for NKU not because it would help all that much with attendence (Morehead and EKU the nearest 2 schools in the OVC don't draw markedly better). It would help because it would reduce travel costs for all of the teams the university fields.

Its called a probationary period, year 3 of 4 is what they are in I believe. The Atlantic Sun waived the last two years of the probation exemption that they could not play in the conference tournament. (most conferences do this if teams are compliant.) It would be in NKU's interest to make sure any NKU games for the Atlantic Sun Tournament are played in the appropriate arena.

 

I know it was a joke..............Secondly the Atlantic Sun lifted it so NKU would not start looking elsewhere after losing 2 teams this past season leaving the conference with only 8 teams. The A Sun cannot afford to lose another team.

With that logic the high school girls should be moved to Regents. Both the NKU womens and mens teams will out draw the HS girls. Realisticly, only the 3rd and the 6th will be a problem. If the NKU men win their game on the 3rd they will more than likely have to go to Florida to play either North Florida or Florida Gulf Coast, who by the way are both better then any team in the OVC.

 

Not if you have a Holmes/Highlands/Holy Cross match up. Can almost guarantee that region game would outdraw both NKU teams.

To the bolded, the OVC plays their conference tournament at a neutral site. In Nashville for the longest time, although their current agreement is up I believe at Municipal. Not sure if it will be renegotiated or if it will shift to Lexington to Altech Arena. It has not been hosted by an OVC school in over 25 years I would say.

 

RE: The recruiting advantage. Is that what the Northern Kentucky rumors are, they do not want NKU because of their "recruiting advantage"? Why would they allow teams from Nashville if that were the case? If they could kick out Jacksonville State, it would be a good addition to the OVC (East).

 

The Ohio Valley Conference told NKU "no thanks" several years ago and is NOT interested in adding them to the league. The fact NKU does not field football was an issue with some presidents, but the other kicker was that NKU could put its athletic money into other sports since it does not have football.

 

Now, that makes no sense because they let in several other schools without football. I was told they let in the S. Illinois team and Belmont because of how close they are to big markets (Nashville and St. Louis) without football so the OVC could use that for sponsorship potential.

 

I asked around and found out the Atlantic Sun is in some trouble if Kennesaw State leaves for a football league. They are a associate member right now in a small league for football only, but one of the NKU assistants said the fear is Kennesaw is going to bolt. The coach also said Florida Coast is trying to get out into a bigger league like the Sun Belt or A-10 or Southern Conference. Same with North Florida, they will leave if an offer comes from a league and would leave with Florida Coast.

 

Maybe the Great Lakes Valley will take back NKU if they go back to Division II. lol.

I said this last week: Bring in Kenny Shields as NKU Athletic Director to try and stop the bleeding for NKU's sake. Nothing but contempt between NKU's athletic dept. and SMG, and now the high schools will be at NKU's throat because of the people running the athletic program. The NKU President is at fault too, as he knows what is going on and is too busy trying to cover up employees who steal money (see the Jennifer Hilvert situation and his lying on TV!).

 

Coach Shields would be able to soothe over the hard feelings in the community. The gentleman who they have as AD right now is over his head, heard he ran away from his previous job in Wisconsin because of a scandal there with the men's basketball coach. I am asking around to find out what exactly happened with him in Wisconsin. More later!

That is correct. But NKU had looked ahead at the possibility, and those were regular season games. This time things are completely different. This is more like 2008-09 when the following happened:

 

1) The BOKC had a chance to get the Ringling Brothers/Barnum Bailey Circus for 4-5 nights in a row. To do so, NKU had to either play its final 2 regular season doubleheaders in Regents Hall and have a chance at hosting the women NCAA Women's Tournament in March. Or

 

2) Go ahead and play the final 2 regular season doubleheaders in the BOKC and give up the week of the NCAA Women's Tournament. The lady who was the Athletic Director at the time, along with Les Crooks, Ken Ramey and another NKU VP who is no longer there and I can't think of his name, agreed to take the week of the NCAA Women's Tournament.

 

3) NKU tried to get one of the GLVC teams to trade home games, they would not, so NKU had to play in Regents Hall. NKU lied to its season ticket holders all summer, then finally fessed up to them AFTER they played U of L in the exhibition. NKU tried to get people to buy up season tickets to go to the U of L game because they paid U of L a HALF MILLION DOLLARS to play in the BOKC. Sadly, the game did not sell out even though a great crowd was there.

I was a ticket owner the first year and most of what you said is truth. Jane Meier was the AD, but she had nothing to do with the games being played in Regents Hall. It was a VP named Zeb Davenport, Dr. Votruba, Les Crooks and Ken Ramey who orchestrated that deal and made NKU play in Regents Hall so the Bank of Ky. could host the circus. It was not Jane.

 

Jane was strong-armed and forced into going along with a dirt deal. I admit $$$ spoke in this case, because the circus had huge crowds. But the NKU administration sold its soul in this case at the expense of the young men and women they recruit and tell how important they are until money talks.

 

I do know Scott's son was a manager for Louisville at the time. I do not know if there was a connection with the large amount of money NKU paid Louisville, it was a DH with the women that night, which BOKC Wildcat conveniently left out.

 

None of that excuses the current NKU administration if this is the truth about this year.

 

I also disagree with you about Ken Shields being the next AD. I think he is a good person, but probably not a good choice at this point in his life with all the stress of being a College AD. I am with you 100% the guy they have now as AD is a joke, but he just reflects the President who is running NKU into the ground. One of the saddest comments I heard at a alumni function two weeks ago is NKU is becoming a laughingstock in Frankfort because of Geoff Mearns, that we are closer to being Kentucky State than UK. That says it all, and is very sad.
