The Rafferty's Bowl on the first Saturday of the season could be billed as a battle between two of the early favorites for Mr Football, St X's Victor Anderson and BGHS's Avery Hibbitt. I saw both play last season and both had excellent games...it was a great battle! Hibbitt already holds BGHS's all time scoring record and single season scoring record (along with the scoring record for a soph at BGHS), and he'll be shooting for BGHS's all time rushing record this fall. His output last season (1544 yards) was the second highest rushing total in school history. He didn't have nearly the playing time nor the attempts that most backs had.

It won't be just two great teams with great tradition playing...that's a great pair of RBs too!! And I'll be fortunate enough to see both battle once again!:thumb: :D

And don't forget, Hoptown has a dynamite back by the name of Emanuel Taylor too. He not only has speed, but also the power to smack over a would-be tackler as well!

Emanuel Taylor of Hopkinsville has a shot but will have to out-perform both Beaumount (Male) and Tandy ( Christian) when Hoptown plays both of these teams.

If I'm not mistaken, Emanuel Taylor will only be a junior next fall, and thus would not qualify as a candidate for Mr. Football 2006. Nonetheless, he is a fabulous back ranking right up there with Anderson, Hibbitt, and Beaumont.

Sorry, Ox...I have a 2005 Hoptown program. He was a junior last year.:D

I would say that Beaumont from Male has to be the preseason favorite.

I agree. Also Anderson from X. I think Petrino will be ranked but will not win out in the long run.

Since there is no clear cut favorite or standout for this years award, do you think that a lineman is out of the question. The kid from Trigg County or Brad Durham from Rock who plays an enormous role on the defensive side of the ball as well. I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a lineman win the award although Chester Ford from Danville definatley deserved the award but was just wondering what he chances of a DL/OL winning it would be.

Like I said PH, "If I'm not mistaken", and obviously I am based upon the Hoptown roster info in the program. I did some backtracking to figure out why I thought he was only a sophomore last season, and found a post talking about how last year was his first season of playing organized football. I guess I just arbitrarily assumed he was younger than he actually is. :creepy:

I read that too...that's unreal!!:scared: :D

If you're talking linemen possibly having a chance this year, BGHS's Stuart Hines must be mentioned, although he is officially a T, he did play some DT last year too. He was a unanimous first team all state T last year as a junior. Smart too...takes after his mother, who is an English teacher at BGHS! He's quick for his size (6-5, 270 at last count) and great technique. He has plenty of frame to add size for the next level.

*By unanimous first team all state, I mean that he was First Team All State for C-J and AP, and he was one of our two Ts for the BGP All Star Team.:D

Every year there is a thread like this and we end up with 35 possibilities, when is the last time we had more than 5 serious contenders for the award.

When is the last time we knew for sure who all 5 would be before the season started? There's always someone who pops up.

The fact is that Kasey Clark will have a monster season if he stays healthy. He could lead in vertually every catagory for a running back and receiver. The bottom line is he will not get the votes required because of geographic location. He would probable have a better shot at getting on the next space shuttle. It's a shame but it is reality.

Bobby Owens- Kcc

He's not even the best running back in the mountains.
