Mason County 68 George Rogers Clark 54

O'Hearn praising GRC's defense.

Also praising Pig Williams' defense, who guarded Damion King. King was 2-16 from the floor?

He did a great job on him. Who guarded Jones...he went wild on them tonight. Has to be a career high for him.

They hit 4.5 3's per game. So they doubled their average game output.

Well just our luck.....:lol2:

Who guarded Jones

I would guess O'Mara or Henry.

A tale of two halves is correct. Clark hit several baskets in transition and scored early and often in the paint. As Coach O'Hearn said in the postgame radio interview, it was a feeling-out process for the Royals. Jones was very effective in the first half with 13 big points.

Cardinal strategy was to limit Henry's touches and they were very successful. 5-6 from the field for Dorian, so he ended up slightly improving on his state-leading 70% field goal percentage. 8 of 9 from the charity stripe was strong as well.

So, make Mason County hit from the outside. Enter RJ, whose 27 points bettered his season average by 7. Missed his first triple, then couldn't miss from beyond the arc. To the Royals' credit, they found him, he set his feet and couldn't miss. I was sitting with Coach Buchanan and his lovely wife during the second half and we couldn't keep track.

And as previously stated, strong, strong defensive effort by Pig Williams on King.

All of which resulted in a 40-21 second half showing for the Royals. Fantastic half both offensively and defensively.

Yup. GRC earned my respect tonight. I think one reason Royals doubled the average of threes tonight was because Clark would sag the zone down to Henry leaving shooters.. RJ's 7 threes were all pretty much wide open and he'll knock them down all night. Pigs defense shows big time in big guys.. Shut down King tonight and Bolden back when we played Holmes. Can't wait for the regional tourney. The fieldhouse had a solid turnout tonight.

And I would be remiss if I didn't give two shout-outs. First, to the vocal Fieldhouse Crazies. Great job!

And finally, to the Clark County radio guys. I had the pleasure of speaking with them for several minutes before they went on the air. Very friendly and personable gentlemen. And in a complete stunner - OLDER THAN ME!

Before each quarter, a former Royal or three was introduced.

Denny Barbour, a couple of generations of Rosses (I once hit Kenny Ross DEAD IN THE CHEST with a golf ball. I thought I was a dead man walking, but he must have been in a generous mood - he let me off with a warning), Wayne Burns, and the immortal Ronnie Lyons.:thumb:

You don't have to lie.

In the game thread, someone mentioned mcpapa and the next post Randy posted Soft 96. I swear I thought the 2 were related at first blush.

Great game R.J. You was the man tonight!!!!

You don't have to lie.

One of you two is lying like a slug.

The rankings in the 10th will be yet another enjoyable task for somebody.
