How dare this child have an imagination! :isurrender:

I agree that schools have lost their minds and common sense isn't so common any more.

What has driven schools to this level of thinking?

Actual lawsuits, threats of lawsuits or something else?

Kid should not have been suspended. I understand they have to at least look into it when a student tells another student they're going to make them "disappear", but it should've been clear right away he was using his imagination and role-playing from a movie.

Nothing I hear or read about being a public school administrator in 2015 makes it seem like it's all that great a gig...

I think parents should start following the administators and video everything they do in places and resturants to make sure they are following a code of conduct.

It would be if you had common sense.

It would be if you had common sense.

These sorts of things didn't come out of nowhere because school administrators suddenly lost all ability to reason. Administrators have folks coming at them from all sides all day long and I believe they do the best they can with nine million people telling them how to do their jobs every morning before they even finish their coffee.

We need to know how things got like this in the first place. Zero-tolerance rules instituted at the behest of insane, reactionary parents' groups is the first place I'd start.

WINNER!!!

Teaching and running a school is harder today than ever because of stuff like this. As long as School Boards are going to Monday Morning QB Principals every time someone complains than the Principals are going to err in this direction.

It's a danged if you do and danged if you don't, job.

If this is the same article I read a few days ago, it also notes that the student faced in school suspension earlier in the year for referring to a black classmate as... "black".

I'm actually surprised he has one given today's society.

AND CAN'T THESE SCHOOLS USE COMMON SENSE? GEEEZ! I am SOOO glad I grew up when I did. I mean my Lord, I played with toy guns, ate candy with actual sugar, played outside and got dirty, told my buddies they'd get cooties if they wandered over on the girls' side, got picked on by other guys until I stood up to them, watched Heckle and Jeckle cartoons, got a BB gun, went "sled riding" in Devou Park or down what we called "steep 12th" when it was blocked for snow, got beat at a sporting event and didn't get a trophy, got "cut" from sports teams because I wasn't good enough at the time, etc., etc......Oh, rode my bike EVERYWHERE without a helmet. DOUBLE GEEEZ!!

And another, I had a HUGE imagination. Came in handy when growing up in inner city and we couldn't have access to the latest toys or gadgets.

This started when parents stopped disciplining their children at home and placed the onus on the school system. Then the parents decided the system should have zero-tolerance.

The system reacts in the only way it can because one person's perception of fair is entirely different than another's. The system has to protect itself from litigation, much of which is not based in common sense. Therefore, you end up with these blanket policies and these well meaning, but misguided, interpretations of those policies.

My mother-in-law is a public school administrator. She doesn't often talk about work because she does everything in her power to leave her work at work (which by all accounts seems like the only way to maintain your sanity in that position), but from what work stories I have heard...ohhhh my

WOW! But I can't say that I am surprised, as we all now know, schools are suspending kids for the stupidest reasons these days. You would think, that someone in these schools would, stop, breath, and think "Is this a good idea what we are about to do? How could this come back and bite us in the rear end?"
