If I'm not mistaken, when I lived in Pike County, it was said that the Coleman name made up a third of the phone book.

Some counties have certain names that are common. In Breathitt County it's Turner. In Clay County it's Sizemore. In both those counties it's not uncommon to have many different families with those names and none of them related.

 

Grant Co. has several Kinmans and Kinmons, not to mention the Simpsons. At one point, I think in the late 70's early 80's, their basketball team had 5-6 Simpsons on the Varsity squad and I believe at least a few of them started.

Although I have very little knowledge of the area except for locating it on a map, doesn't the names Combs, Campbell, and Napier show up a lot in Perry County and Hazard? Seems like whenever either one of these teams are in the Sweet 16 I hear these names.

Mason County used to be Myrick's and Jackson's. I'm surprised there hasn't been kids and grandkids coming up thru the system, but haven't heard those names for many years

Those are all common names in Perry. Combs is the most common.

 

Besides the Turner name I mentioned earlier in Breathitt, Combs is also a big name in that county too. Noble is also common.

 

In the county I'm from, Owsley, the most common names are Smith, Gabbard, and Marshall.

That is weird, what are the chances of that?

 

This has to drive scorekeepers nuts at every game. They're bound to make errors when keeping stats.

 

The announcers for the All "A" Classic have been excellent, and amazingly they managed to keep all the Geralds straight with no problem.

 

As a 20+ year scorekeeper, this shouldn't be an issue at all. All of your information is put down in conjunction with the player number, not the name.
