January 27, 201511 yr Piano Man tour? Something like that? Believe it was called the "Face To Face" Tour. Great show!
January 27, 201511 yr Reggie(Elton) had a top 40 song on the Billboard chart for something like thirty consecutive years. That's crazy! He had, I think, seven straight number one albums, second only to the Beatles. Incredible consistency and endurance.
January 27, 201511 yr Author Incredible endurance. Good to know, Science, but that is an aggressive share. :sssh:
January 27, 201511 yr First EJ album I owned was Captain Fantastic. Really good album. But really all the early 70s albums had good songs on them. You couldn't go wrong.
January 27, 201511 yr .... "Levon" is his best song and I am not open for a debate. He calls his child Jesus 'Cause he likes the name
January 28, 201511 yr .... "Levon" is his best song and I am not open for a debate. Hard to argue! But I have requested that 'Funeral for a friend' be played when I'm displayed horizontally.
January 28, 201511 yr Hokey or not, this was a powerful remake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8gO0Z818j4 I believe Pete Townsend was quoted as saying " he makes his living making songs about dead blondes"
January 30, 201511 yr I believe Pete Townsend was quoted as saying " he makes his living making songs about dead blondes" That was Keith Richards...
January 30, 201511 yr From his 70's hit list, I find "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word," is often overlooked. One of my Elton favorites. Most of my favorite Elton songs are from that decade, but he did produce some good work (and certainly plenty of "hits") after that. I've seen him live twice, and liked both. Neither overwhelmed me, but both were certainly good. We be passing on the upcoming show.
January 30, 201511 yr It's hard to argue that EJ has so many fantastic tunes in his catalogue, but one tune that I've always loved that seems somehow to be sorely overlooked when discussing him is the Lesley Duncan penned beautiful tune "Love Song" released by Elton John on his 1970 "Tumbleweed Connection" album. If anyone here remembers during the 1970's when Mother of God Church in Covington spearheaded the Folk Christian style guitar mass so fantastically lead by former priest Neil Blunt, this was one tune that stood out to me that they beautifully played as it worked so wonderfully into the the message of sharing God's eternal love. As a child, Sunday mornings were no longer an obligated chore, for listening to this fantastic Christian Folk ensemble became my weekly Folk Woodstock of sorts, and I was always eager to attend. Some traditionalists of the day screamed blasphemy, while for me it was the key element that kept me wanting to seek and absorb the message. Whenever I hear this song it harkens back memories of them performing it. I never got to see Elton John perform it live, but their lovely rendition always put me in Sunday morning peaceful soul restoring concert bliss, and was more than satisfying. I always get goose bumps when I hear it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4ZwRpgR5YM
January 30, 201511 yr Here's my favorite.... You wouldn't see many artists today going out on stage by themselves with a tough vocal song like this one, and no backup vocals to help. Stunning.
January 30, 201511 yr Saw a show recently where he was showing off his new piano. Lights up, displays images. Not sure how old the clip was. I'm assuming he tours with it? It looked reaslly cool.
