Sam Smith Ripped Off Tom Petty

Co-writes is more apt. Max Martin is the lead credit on most/all of these singles.

Her 2nd album she wrote the majority. Her 3rd album I believe she wrote everything. Martin didn't show up until her 4th and she still wrote some of it herself. Now her new album has Martin all over it.

When she went all the way to pop and abandoned the last of any country trappings, it's pretty clear she needed someone to show her how.

You and Mr. Cat both. For the record, I can't stand her!

Same here.

I love Petty. I love Smith. I love Swift.

You're the anti-Mikey.

Just a slight shift of tempo makes it match up completely. Same melody; different arrangement.

You couldn't probably do that with 100 different country songs.

Most certainly you can. Thing is, people have been getting ripped off in the music biz for decades.
