The key match up in this game, IMO, is Schuh v Avery.

 

Holmes needs Avery to have a good game down low and avoid foul trouble to win. When he plays at a high level, Holmes is tough to beat because it opens up driving lanes and outside shots for Bolden/McClendon... Same with Schuh in regards to Covcath.

These two match up very well with one another:

 

Bolden v Theobald

McClendon v Vonhandorf

Mullins v Flood

Covington/Arnold v Romes

Avery v Schuh

 

I assume those will be the match ups...Could see Theobald and McClendon matched up and CVH/Bolden from a Covcath defensive standpoint.

 

 

No inside info here but it doesn't take one being a basketball scout to know that CCH is probably going to employ the "cut the head off of the snake" D and go deny on Bolden. When he's in the half court my GUESS is you'll see Flood nose-to-nose with him. We'll see what the other four can then do.

No doubt, but that's what most teams try and do. However, CCH will probably more effective with Bolden. Someone has to pick it up for the Bulldogs. Sometimes they do, sometimes not and sometimes Bolden manages to hit everything.

 

Bolden has to get 25 for Holmes to win IMO, so I'd deny him also.

So they actually bring in more money renting the BOKC and then splitting profits after they pay for the facility than they do just hosting at one or the other school's gym?

 

Trust me, the schools get a nice payday out of playing at BOKC.

I'm not sure Covcath's gym can hold the crowd that comes with a Holmes/Covcath or Newcath/Covcath match up...same with Newcath's gym. I have no problem with the games being played at BOKC.

 

I do agree the atmosphere would be better in a packed HS gym, but ask the players and I'm sure they would rather have it this way.

 

I thought the Newcath/Covcath game Friday night was just as good of an atmosphere, if not better.

This game will not have nearly the crowd that NCC/CCH had last Friday. Even with that big of a crowd the "experience" didn't wow anyone other than the sheer number of people. I hardly noticed NCC's big student section and I was on their end of the floor.

 

I'm in the minority. I get that. I don't mind having to get their really early, find parking, sit with someone's knees in my back, and sit on a hard bench.

Having seen only a handful of games this year, I think the Colonels win big. I doubt they will have a problem containing Beetle, but they can't forget about everyone else.

You do realize Beetle dropped 28 v Covcath last year during the regular season, then 25 in the district championship, right? Bolden was "held" to 15 in the region championship but he also had his worst shooting night of the year (3-18 3FG) from outside.

 

Covcath has NOBODY that can check him 1 on 1. They will double him every possession. That's the only way to "contain him" ....and simply hope that he isn't hitting from outside because if he is, he becomes even tougher to stop because of his driving ability.

 

And FWIW, I expect Covcath to zone to avoid having to defend him 1 on 1...worked pretty well in the region championship last year.

This game could be held at CCH if the Crazies didn't take up 3/4 of the bleachers on the one side. Partially joking but also partially serious. We were there for a game and our parents either sat in a distant corner or behind our own student section. I have to say that is the draw back of playing at the smaller gyms that have larger student bodies that come out for games.

 

I guess be thankful they don't bring the band...
